Play DMC1, 3, 4, and 5. DMC2 and DmC are extra credit and non-essential.

Vague Luminary DmC is extra credit since it’s not canon but dmc2 is mandatory since it’s part of the story line. So if you want to play the games in chronological order then play Dmc3,Dmc1,Dmc2,Dmc4 and then Dmc5. There’s also an anime that takes place after dmc1 and the mangas are important to the story.
