V/Line passenger trains at Dingee; Victoria's least used train station - Victorian Transport
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video we visit Dingee, a small town seemingly in the middle of nowhere in northern Victoria around 204km north of Melbourne. Situated along the Bendigo - Pyramid Road the town has a population of only 195 people (2021 census) and has facilities such as a pub, general store, post office, a fire station, some parks, houses, and that's about it.
Dingee also has its own train station; one of the smallest towns in Victoria to have one. Dingee is served by two V/Line passenger trains per day in each direction on the Swan Hill Line. In 2021-22 Dingee station averaged only 100 passengers for the whole year; making Dingee station the least used train station in Victoria.
Despite being so little-used it's a very well-presented station. It retains its old weatherboard station building which is in good condition (especially having been restored in 2017), and the station forecourt features a set of preserved semaphore signals. Across the car park is the Dingee Progress Park which is well-maintained with a playground, gazebo, and some public toilets. The station building also serves as the towns library, which is only open on Tuesday's.
In the video we see various V/Line N Class locomotive-hauled trains with N Set carriages at the station and other locations around town. As a bonus some of the trains have an extra PH power van in tow, and others are hauling four-car N Sets; quite the rarity these days as most of the remaining N Set carriages are marshaled into five-car sets. We also see a bonus clip of a N Class at nearby Mitiamo at the end of the video.
Dingee station opened on the 21st June 1883 when the line opened from Raywood to Mitiamo. The station was originally called Talambe but was renamed Dingee on the 15th October 1883. The station burnt down on the 7th March 1944, but I'm unsure if the station building seen today is a repair from the original or if it was newly built after the fire.
KZreadrs @railrover have an excellent video giving a tour of Dingee station and its history. I do highly recommend watching it: • We Visited The Least U...
While some KZreadrs have visited Dingee over the years to film a train here, I believe I'm the first to do a trainspotting video here with multiple trains featured in the video. This video was filmed across four separate visits between March 2022 and March 2024.

Love the remote feel of the place, good vid!
Those "wildflowers" at 11:15 are invasive Gazania weeds from South Africa and my late Dad, who was a noted amateur botanist, hated them and was well-known for stopping at roadsides to furiously grub them out and stamp all over them...

Interesting, I decided to read up on them and didn't realise they're considered to be an invasive weed species. You learn something new every day!
Great video! Loved seeing the remnants of the old line to Kahuna!
n463 was used as a buffer for a comeng at Spencer st in 2003.
As soon as I saw Dingee I immediately watched this video. Eventhough the station was likely left open as a central point im still surprised it wasnt closed later on due to the extremely low patronage. I wonder what the drivers think when they see someone actually boarding there

I agree that it was likely left open to maintain rail catchment coverage in a large area following the closure of other stations along the area as part of the 1981 New Deal Timetable. I was surprised when I actually saw passengers waiting for a train here 😮

@@ThebusofdoomFSXMakes you wonder why they closed Toolamba on the Cobram line in 1987? My V/line timetable from February that year only shows one train stopping at the station in each direction everyday.
Great video! I am yet to film the N class pulling the loco hauled set, I'd better get onto it!
My condolences
Awesome video. I'd never heard of Dingee.
I was on this mornings up N class to Swan Hill. As we came down on the 1pm service back to southern cross, the n class suffered a traction motor fault so we had to take coaches home. Seats were like concrete
I have a collection of V/Line Edmondson tickets from the 1980s and 1990s, all from various train and coach services (including the now axed rail services to Cobram, Mildura, Dimboola, and Leongatha) and believe it it or not, I have no tickets that comes from Dingee. Even back then, there wasn’t many passengers alighting at Dingee. I might have to show you the collection one day, as I’ve got some pretty interesting tickets in it.
First time seeing someone trainspotting at a least used station
Great video
Yo nice to see my favourite station get some representation.
