The Uva Wellassa University was born in the backdrop of a long felt need to establish a new university based on modern educational concept. The University was set up in the Uva Province capital Badulla as a national university in Sri Lanka in June 2005. It is different from all the other universities: as it is designed to provide essential skills and broad general education for all students while providing conceptual and methodological background and the training necessary to obtain practical solutions for value addition for local agricultural and mineral resources of Sri Lanka.
