UV/IR-Cut Filters: What I Discovered While Capturing The Moon - PixInsight Moon Processing

Ғылым және технология

I'm trying a few new things in this video. First, I'm using a new back-focus of 105 mm when using the ASI ZWO294MC-Pro camera pared with the Celestron Nexstar 6SE telescope. Im also comparing shots of the moon taken with and without the UV/IR-cut filter by Baader Planetarium. I was surprised with my end results!

    Pretty much the same setup I use but I use a heq5 pro. In fact I decided to start imaging with the 6Se after seeing your previous vlogs. I Would really appreciate it if you could tell what clamp etc you use to attach your pc PPB and hub etc to the scope’s dovetail as I’m using a crappy piece of tin at the moment. Thanks and keep the vlogs coming 👍

    Why does this channel have so few subscribers? I'm preparing my way more modest rig to shoot the Moon in IR only to see if this has any positive effect on lowering the atmospheric shimmering. It should because diffraction drops off with longer wavelengths, but I want to see that working in person. Cheers! I'm glad I've stumbled upon this video.

    if you go to your local auto store you can buy some hot pockets packs, you shake them up and they get hot and stay that way for a long time. works good on a cold night. just stick them in your pockets and and they will thaw your hands out in seconds!.

    I'm so glad to find these vids from planetary imagers. I'm very interested in doing this. I have a Takahashi Mewlon 180c and just got a ZWO ASI224MC cam. I have this new app: Good To Stargaze that has seeing information, but I haven't been out to evaluate it yet. The telescope was great visually on Jupiter during opposition, though my 100mm f/7.4 FC-100DC was giving me more pleasing views under the less than perfect seeing conditions. I've been practicing tracking and getting the right sizing and exposure time for the video through the window 😂 because it's been so cold. I'm using a Televue 2x Barlow for Jupiter.

    Great! I never thought to use a UV/IR filter as I have an Optolong, question is you focused on a star then rather the moon it's self? I have always focused on the Moon and it's not easy when using higher power as you can focus on the edge of the Moons craters or the center of the Moon. So please say how and what you focused on please??? Thank you!

    may I ask about your 105mm of back focus required for the Focal reducer? I see you have the T adapter (50mm), the 16mm spacer, starizona filter drawer(17.5mm)the 22mm spacer and finally the camera which has 6.5mm, so i think your at 112mm? trying to do a similar set up and wondering how to get there :-)

  • @catherinegrimes2308
    @catherinegrimes2308 Жыл бұрын

    I don't bother about backfocus distance. I put a Canon EOS T2 mount on the telescope, at the ZWO camera end I put the ZWO T2 extender then add the ZWO EOS T2 adapter. The two EOS adapters clip together and there is no brainwork involved. I bought a used EOS 2x teleconverter from Japan and it clips in between the two EOS adapters to double your focal length. If you look at the ZWO camera manual, look at the arrangement for attaching a Canon EOS camera to the camera for the required parts. I have a Fujifilm Compact System Camera and I need and EOS to Fujifilm X-Mount adapter and I can put this camera on the telescope. I will probably use this arrangement when photographing the solar eclipse in Texas in 2024, but will probably take my Askar FMA180 telescope/lens.

    So, Baader says not to use an IR cut filter for the moon, but you found it was better with the filter? I'm confused (which is pretty common). My other question is what that filter does to Ha.

    The mini PC came with a little, metal plate that helps you attach it to a flatscreen monitor. I used that and instead of attaching it to a computer monitor, I screwed it on the dovetail adapter. I did use velcro before that and that worked flawlessly as well.
