This video says to choose virtualization, but with M1 surely that must be an error. Virtualization "can only run the native CPU architecture" and x86 and Apple Silicon M1 are not the same native architecture. Seems "Emulate" is the only workable choice. [Update:] I noticed that later in the video, the ARM64 architecture is deselected, and x86_64 architecture is selected instead, which indicates emulation, not virtualization!

u can also click on galerry, then select windows xp, select an iso file and set the iso file as boot iso

Thanks a lot. After a lot of frustrating tries over past couple of months and always seeing blue screen on VM start, was already giving up on this. Coming from Parallels Desktop (who no longer support silicon chips), have a couple of questions: 1. Is there no way to run UTM in full screen? 2. How to access the Mac folder I've shared from WinXP? On my MacBook Pro M1, I'm using bridged networking. If that all boots up properly, then on your host, you can run `smbutil view //name_of_machine`. That should then list the volumes you've got available. Mounting them `mount_smbfs //machine/share $HOME/mounts/share` (you'll need the directory for $HOME/mounts/share to exist first). What I've not been able to do is mount a share from Mac into Windows XP. This won't be possible as the Mac does not support SMBv1. Only V2+ and XP is ONLY V1 as far as I can tell.

Where did you get the Windows XP ISO file?

Hi everything working but very slow install and very slow on windows. I tried on two different macs with two different iso? Any think to help speed it up?

Missing USB support. Also file sharing and copy paste. Any ideas? I installed spice tools but no luck.

I followed this, and I successfully installed yesterday, but now today, when I load Windows XP, it shows the boot logo, and when the desktop loads I just get a black screen. Any tips?

Absolutely, you can do this. Start by creating a folder on your Mac and placing any files you want to access on Windows XP into that folder. Next, open Disk Utility and navigate to "File" > "New Image" > "Image from Folder." Select the folder you created from the dialog box and click "Choose." On the following screen, change the Image Format to "hybrid image (ISO)" and save the file. Finally, rename the .dmg file to .iso. Now, launch Windows XP. Once it has booted up, select the “Drive Image Option” (the third icon on the top right of UTM) and choose the ISO file you just created. You will then be able to access your files from there. Although this process is somewhat tedious, it’s currently the only method that works. If you need to add more files in the future, you'll have to repeat these steps.

Awesome video! I just have a quick question! You may not see this comment. No one might, but... Would this method also work with Windows 7 or 8? I like the idea of virtualizing Windows instead of emulating it, where it's slow. What I mean is: doing the same things to set it up (building the VM), but instead change the boot CD to Windows 7 or 8.

Great video thank but in my UTM machine does not work the file sharing between XP and MacOS. I installed the SPICE Guest Tools and QEMU Drivers but the error still exists.

2:15 Shut down your Windows virtual machine, then with UTM running and the Windows VM selected, click on the Sharing tab. Click "Enable Directory Sharing", then click Save. 2:50 Once enabled, you’ll see "Shared Directory" listed now under the idle virtual machine. Click it to browse for a Mac directory (folder) you wish to share with the Windows VM. At this point, you can launch the virtual machine again. NOTE: You will need SPICE WebDAV service for this to work

I had struggles with webdav too. Then I quit it. Try quickftp with the bridged network.

i have a problem, when i open the installer it just tells me there are no drives and it tells me its going to shut down. Pls help

Yes, you should be able to! If it doesn't work, simply search for "Sims 1 Wine" on google. It's an alternative way to run PC games/apps on a Mac.
