I think the key to beating Hermont would be not playing him. Dude has heat.
I really appreciate the fact that Winston is a fantastic player himself, yet he consistently plays against and shares video of him playing against absolute beasts on the court. Kudos to you man, and good luck on getting to 20k!

Exactly! I don't think most people would be able to maintain a successful KZread channel consisting of matches they're losing 90+% of the time. Winston's humility is admirable, not to mention he's a very strong player in his own right!

@@jgugalahe has not improved a bit in years, his technique is always the same, minor changes on the backhand maybe but all the other things remained, and he records himself playing so it wouldn’t be that hard to fix it, plus the footwork, I’m comparing his older videos to newer and he’s always so slow it hurts to see, I’m starting to think that either 1) he doesn’t care, or 2) he’s slow.

My attempt at some constructive criticism as a 5.0+ player: People at 5.0 and above hit with more pace, therefore you gotta have a shorter back-swing to deflect those shots. I would focus on getting low and really using your body to lean into the ball with timing. You can see how he leans forward with every shot, which involves using a straighter swing-path, while you are almost always out of position or like how Karue mentioned before, moving back. Long and short of it is, don't let the ball push you back. Maybe practice base-line to base-line rallies with him and practice deflecting his pace. You'll be surprised how having good timing, and leaning into the ball works. Good timing with blocking shots back, can be more effective than imparting your will into trying to hit hard. Think of people who look effortless when hitting. I hope this helps. :D

Couldn't have said it any better. I once played a 12 UTR player and tried to rip my return harder than their serve, only to realise I couldn't even cleanly hit the ball. I then started to block their serve straight down the middle of the court and my returns were deep and with a decent amount of pace. Still got destroyed but I learnt an interesting lesson.

Hermont was savage on court. Appreciate Winston putting himself out there playing guys well above his level. It really puts a perspective on how much the game changes for people on different rating levels. Is there any videos of Hermont playing college ball? Would love to see it.
When I heard the sound off Hermont’s first serve I said out loud “O $#!t” Winston is in trouble. There is something about the sound off the racket that really differentiates the top players. Well done getting a game off him! Love these videos, thank you for making them.

Hermont's serves were incredible! Even second serves were bullets at times.
Hermont is a BEAST! Love his serves and backhand! 💪
Hermont's forehand at time 6:40 was f-ing brutal.
25k subs!!! I shared your channel with other tennis and mma friends (yes they do play). We love your stuff..
New subscriber here. I’m a 4.5 myself and am cracking up at these matches you film. It really is such a drop off after that 5.0 level. I tried hitting with the notre dame guys here in my home town of south bend and it’s just embarrassing 😂
Hermont is great! That service sounds like pros'! And he's definitely remembered the offence strategy from his first tennis textbook, with the only change that now he deploys all the time the overkill offence.
His serve is a rocket! Your forehand is heavy. Hadn't watched you in a while but you've definitely improved! Playing players better than you will keep making you better
It would be interesting to hear some in-game commentary from the both of you when coming to the camera-side court. How's the game strategy going? What you might try next? What is your biggest struggle so far?
I mean, inch for inch that's like a professional level serve, what the hell. Great technique, and absolute tree trunks for legs that he uses well biomechanically into the serve.
Hermont is my hero, as a 5'8 guy on a good day, I too was a counterpuncher with a better backhand than forehand in college (obviously to a much lower level). He seemed to have a lot of fun out there ripping the ball around, especially on serve. On the return game, I think when someone is bombing serves like that, you're most likely going to have to work on blocking back the ball high and deep in order to create neutral situations. I think Winston might've taken a little too big of cuts at the ball on the return game which gave Hermont some easy points. That being said, Hermont moved his serves on both the forehand and backhand side which turned it into a guessing game, and basically had advantages on either side of the ball.
Thanks for the IV code! Gearing up for Mixed doubles state tourney.
every time Hermont hit the ball, my whole house shook.
Hi Winston. Could you also add to the videos’ description the racquet specs you and your guests use (racquet, strings, tension, etc.) during a particular match. I guess it would be interesting for other viewers to know as well. Cheers and all the best.
Hermont is an incredible player to watch. GG boys
Winston! I want to get better and go hit with you one day. You seem like a cool guy. Anyway, love the content. Forget 20k, let’s go to 100k+!!!
No surprise! Good effort Winston!
Thanks for sharing WD. Consider tossing the ball farther out front and into the court on your serves. Might help reduce some of the faults long.
I think Chase vs. Hermont would be an excellent match! Great playing, by the way. Hermont maybe just has a bit too much firepower.
Wow, so much speed and power just pops off Hermont's racket.
2:11 holy shit, I was NOT expecting that! Damn! Sounds like a gun going off. I was not expecting that especially from a shorter guy.

Hermont plays a pretty tight game. Tight tight tight! It would be difficult to get past his serves but if you can drop shot and lob more. YOu may be able to mix it up to a point where you move him around the court more. Right now, Hermont moves you where he wants you.

Hermont's first serve, my jaw dropped. He's not that tall, but packing a bomb.
Winston had some domination there for a couple points. Really movin in an hitting big on your forehand. I still think you're getting way better man. Probably sucks to go up against a guy like this, but I bet after playing all these people you go back to 4.5 and you'll do pretty well. Pretty soon maybe you'll be 5.0!!!
the sound coming off Hermont's racquet make me feel like my strongest shots sound like i'm hitting a wiffle ball
Score line is about right. A full 1.0 difference in level should pretty much always result in 6-0 score. Hermont’s serve solid 5.5 level
Hey Winston. Just started watching your videos and enjoy very much. A couple of things I'd like to mention (with respect) is the lighting is not very good in the videos. Maybe related to the time of day when filming. Also, is there any way you can have an above court camera? To look down from center court and see both players/shots equally. Just a couple of thoughts. Thanks again.
Ooo Hermont vs Coach Chase!!!
It would be awesome if you could talk or post about the gear that you and your opponents are playing with. Just something that I am interested in. Thanks!
HERMOOOOOOONT! LFG!
I reckon you could've got into a groove in a best of 3 Winston.
it may seem like 5.0s and 4.5s have similar pace, but 5.0s just hit the ball so much quicker and deeper consistently. not to mention the fact that a lot of 5.0+s have college tennis experience, if not more. they're pretty much the highest level players you can encounter outside of college/challengers/professional tennis. its a really tough matchup to play a 5.0 and being able to compete with or beat one really is a sign that your game is advancing to the next level.
that serve is a rocket!
Hermont was a monster.
@Winston Du would be great if you did this exact thing but with you vs a lower level player 3.0 or 3.5
wow.. this is some serious match. look at that short guy hitting like cannon... I wish I can hit like that
Good thing his forehand was his 'weak point' haha guy plays and serves REALLY well
How tall is Hermont? He looks like about 5'6"? His serve is incredible for that height. You've gotta have amazing precision to be a not-tall dude and hit those bullet serves.
I think watching you playing against very strong players the main difference that come to my eye that they know well how to utilize their full body weight into the shots both on rallies and serves where Winston shots still look like mostly generated by hands and therefore do not have as much heaviness and penetration as semi-pro and pro shots of his opponents.
Sweet Jesus, maybe try and play when the sun ☀️ hasn’t almost set. 🤣 I really respect how you’re not shy in posting these woodshed/rag doll beat downs against very high level players. It can only make you better in the long run. 💪
He’s a beast that serve is crazy
The problem with someone telling you their weakness is that they will start expecting more of those balls... So, that's a bit of an edge. I think you would have a better chance if you ask them to play to your strengths
Think Hermont misled you :-) His forehand had to much pace and he liked hitting a cross court forehand on the run. Anything short Mermont buried. Be great to see Hermont play Karue as we'd see Hermont under time pressure. Love your work and good luck for 20,000 subs for year end.
Hermont v Coach Chase 💯
I'm about a 4 to 4.5 solid. Level jumps up a lot at 5.5, then open, then top 100, 20, 10, 5, etc. There are so many levels in sports. People think its high school, college and then pro. It's like 20 levels in between all of that.
Can't believe this hermont is not pro.. everytime he shots are so heavy and going for the kill, he will kill any ball when it bounces high, his serves was strong as well.
I enjoy these videos
Damn Hermont hits hardd
Hermot is from Sacramento and is around the same age as Jenson Brooksby who also is from Sacramento. Anyone know if they ever played each other in juniors or some other tournament? Btw, Hermot was a member of the tennis club I belonged to (now closed, sadly) and he was a very nice young man and hardworking. Glad to see him getting some publicity! 😀

not familiar with tennis rating system, what does 4.5 and 5.5 mean?
Yeah that serve is no joke!
Hi Winston. Coming from a fellow 4.0 player, have you noticed that you play a bit flat footed? Not sure how you go about playing more on the balls on your feet (drills?), but that could help with your feet work around the court and get to the ball quicker. You have a nice forehand and backhand. Nice channel too - i always wondered how a rec player would fair against top level players. Now I know. :)

What kind of string uses Hermont on that Pure Drive?
Wiston i have seen few of your videos i noticed few things which i think if you work on will help your game. First Serve: Your toss tends to go behind you, so when you are serving on those balls the speed and depth goes of, where as the serves you have done with ball toss in front have visible depth and speed. Second the ground strokes you need to bend your knees and use your left hand for alignment also you tend to hit the ball a tad bit late, try connect the call in front and use your body. I am sure you will win many more matches. Good luck !
