USSR Anthem, Revolution Day 1990 Гимн СССР

The national anthem of the USSR played during the November parade in 1990 on Moscow's Red Square. This would be the last parade held before the USSR's collapse at the end of the following year.

My dad was a translator for the Moscow branch of a major British newspaper and was actually a spectator for the 1989 and this (1990) parade and is somewhere in the crowd when the camera pans over the masses of people. He told me that there were people in the crowd openly weeping as they knew that everything would soon end and the Soviet regime would soon be over, especially with what went on in Berlin and Lithuania at the time. My dad was a fierce fan of Margaret Thatcher and a staunch Christian but even he had a tear in his eye when the anthem started. God bless the Russian people.

There may be typos using a translator First of all, one of my family members said that he was watching the parade in person at the time, and he said he has been watching the parade since 1977. I think it's very heartbreaking to think that

@@FalconKalinius He wasn't, unfortunately lol. He's now head of modern languages as at a school. He has some very funny stories involving Russians who he suspected were KGB agents. He once had the rear mirror fall down from his Lada press car that he was given in Moscow, only to reveal a microphone dangling down from the roof where the intelligence services had bugged the car. He was also 'hit on' by a very beautiful woman on the train from Poland to Russia, whom he was convinced was KGB, as she kept asking him where he was staying what his political affiliations were etc. The reality is that in the 90s at least, most of these people were hugely incompetent and knew the country was on its knees, so couldn't be bothered to do their jobs properly.

I think the factors that helped contributed to the collapse of the USSR was Gorbachev’s implications of Perestroika and Glasnost, in this process he was leaning towards a more capitalist USSR, and these policies were meant to help the economy and allow soviet states to succeed from the union.

Both the creation and dissolution of the USSR were great tragedies in Russian history. USSR in its later years did more good than harm but its collapse devastated everything. USSR was the defacto continuation of the Russian empire and the after independence of the “republics”, Russia lost all that territory forever and half of the soviet population forever.
