USS George Washington: On board aircraft carrier - BBC News

Subscribe to BBC News / bbcnews
Recent weeks have once again seen US ships and aircraft carriers launching air strikes against targets in the Middle East. America's role as world's policeman has been widely criticised by countries like Russia. But many of its allies see US power as a vital stabiliser in an uncertain world, nowhere more so than in east Asia where the rise of China is making countries like the Philippines very nervous. As American ships began firing cruise missiles at targets in Syria, out in the Pacific two US carrier battle groups off the coast of Guam were carrying out the biggest live fire exercise in years. Rupert Wingfield-Hayes went aboard the USS George Washington to get a closer look.

Did the BBC just waiver their "neautrality" and call 'Muricah the world's policeman? Yes they did. Now you've grown some balls, scrap the licence fee and start advertising.

Even if a war were to break out between the U.S and China, not only would China have to deal with fighting a global super power (and its allies), they would also probably have to fight a revolution at the same time. It is still a communist nation and the people would most likely rise up.

Arceus Ohh... LOL.. yeah, yeah. Letting foreign force inside our country is always suck. Of course those crimes done by US army in korea(cause we rarely have marines here) should be judged. But even though they are occasionally troublesome, it's far better to have americans in our territory than having Chinese that will severelly undermine our hard-fought democracy, which are being destroyed in Hong Kong.

What do you mean by every time when was the last? Me my self as a filipino know for a fact that we share common values with America as we were a colony by them during president Taft we have a long relationship . I never know a single filipino who dislikes America, it only shows that obviously they are being paid by but not spoken within their true minds www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/apr/23/protesters-police-clash-in-philippines-ahead-of-ob/?page=all

Europe and the US should try to find ways to intergrate more on all spectrums. Also, the EU, as the most wealthy of all, should start investing more in its armies (or army) to be a proper partner in holding China and India back.

It's too soon now, yea. Because ''nationality''. Once welle succesfully negate that concept, hopefully there would be more willingness to die and fight for one and eachtoher;: to see eachother as one and the same. Because, really, Europeans, in their values, hardly differ from one and another.

It used to worry me a lot about a war between China and the US. Not as much anymore after realizing that if a war did break out, China would be facing the US and most likely a revolution back home. It's happened before. It was between Mexico and thr US over... i think the battle of the Alamo. Mexico started to win in south western Texas but had to turn back to defend the capital from the revolution. Still worried about war... who isn't? But it is comforting to know the CCP would lose without any doubt, then afterwards an actual real democracy would take root in China. Hopefully...

He is being broadcasted in front of millions of people. He is probably not used to being filmed. Not to mention he is in command of thousands of men and billions of dollars worth of equipment, if war breaks out, he and his men are going to be on the front line. Its a stressful job, and he is on television. I would be nervous as well, lol.
