John passed away last year. He said the crew was pretty tight and kept in touch with reunions and such. No doubt he and your dad had chatted over the years. I don't know if you watched his full interview attached to this clip, but he mentions a number of people. All the submariners I have interviewed absolutely loved that service. I cluelessly would have thought it would have been the opposite. I despair we will never see another like your dad and his generation. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you for your service. I sailed subs in the 1960's One Nuc and rode a diesel for a few weeks in 1969. Loads of fun. I do remember the air getting so thin you couldn't keep a cigarette lit and the air so thick you could cut it with a knife. That is when you could get a headache that no aspirin could help but as soon as you brought fresh air inboard it went away. Those were the days of my youth. Turning 76 here pretty quick.

If those young men had been through the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, they were probably thrilled with the meals they were served. I've heard several WW2 veterans say, "they fed us well" or "we ate really well." I know my dad had 4 siblings, two joined the service and it took some strain off the family in trying to keep everyone fed.

Did anyone notice his right ear is larger than his left ear? Kinda silly I know but I couldn't help but notice.
