USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park
#ilovervlife #ussalabama #battleships On this trip, we have experience so much from historic homes, a lighthouse and forts, but this stop was different. Joan and I had the opportunity to visit Mobile, AL and visit the Battle Ship Memorial Park. We were able to tour a huge piece of WWII history - The USS Alabama Battleship, USS Drum Submarine and a wide variety of military aircraft that was involved in various wartime efforts. Touring the battleship was an amazing experience showing how 2,500 Sailors and Marines lived on this floating city protecting the United States throughout WWII. And our tour didn’t stop with the battleship. We were able to walk through a submarine and see a wide range of aircraft. An amazing day and great appreciation for those who served our country.

One thing you kept mentioning that I noticed as well, was the amazing engineering that this country put together in the late 30's early 40's. Now we have generations that can't change a tire.

Excellent job on the tour. My Father enlisted in the Navy in 1933 was working with the ZP-12 squadron in the Atlantic Lighter than Air (blimp) then deployed in the South Pacific on the USS Arkansas, then to the USS Wasp (Aircraft carrier)and flip-floped from the Wasp to the USS Redfin (submarine) during WW2 his stories we're flat out mesmerizing. He was a CPO 1st class radio operator. Thanks for sharing your video. Kind regards, Eric dee

Hot, hot, hot weather. I’ve not seen the USS AL since my 6th grade field trip. I hope y’all were able to dine at Felix’s Fish Camp just a hop, skip, & jump down on the Causeway. Enjoy your time in my prior neck of the woods.

Hi Judy and thanks. It was a great trip. We just ran out of time. A weeks stay just wasn’t enough. We missed Felix’s and Winzell’s downtown. We’ll fix that next go round.
Great video, Jerry! I was just down in Mobile from Birmingham to see the USS Alabama a couple of days ago and I used your video as a guide so I would know what to see. Thank you!

I am from Chicago and we have a few great museums but everything is hands off look but don't touch, and I encourage all my friends to visit alabama for the simple fact that you have access to everything, you can touch and feel and climb all over everything
I saw last 2 battleships in combat in 1st Gulf war. Was quite impressive seeing them in Action. I was frigate sonar tech sailor, only 200 sailors on my ships! Love my naval Career Go Navy! Nice Vid!

We have toured a couple of ships also, The battleship North Carolina & the USS Yorktown in Charleston. They are so awesome, I have to say of the two that the USS Yorktown was my favorite because it had so much more around it to explore also. If you haven’t yet and get a chance to I highly recommend it. We’ll be in Alabama next July so hope to get to this one also. Thanks for sharing!

I am glad to see that you went to Mobile and got to see the USS Alabama and the USS Drum. In the mid-90s I got to go to mobile while I was in the Army National Guard to pick up equipment, my wife and I had an opportunity to see the Alabama and the drum, the drum at that time was in the water and very few airplanes around I have really enjoyed this video I started out in the Air Force in 1969 I retired from the Army National Guard. I live in Havana south of Tuscaloosa and north of Greensboro Alabama. Y'all keep enjoying your trip.

Thanks so much Donald. So much has been added. Would have liked to see more, but it was a hot one and we had leaked enough. The north end now has a substantial amount of tanks, artillery and more. Fun tour.
I hope someday you will be able to tour an aircraft carrier and compare the size of the two ships. You will amazed. Loved the video. I was in the Navy.

Actually, that's not the SR-71. That is the Lockheed A-12. Cool to see one of the nine A-12s that still exist; they could fly a bit higher and a bit faster than the SR.

It's no wonder why submariners often got far better food then the rest of the navy! No way could I have ever dealt with those conditions no matter what I was being paid.
