How & Why to use Anamorphic Lenses: geni.us/HowToUseAnamorphics
I spent 2 days shooting with the USKEYVISION 1.55x Anamorphic. I used it with an iPhone 12 Pro Max, a DJI OM 4 and a Zhiyun Smooth Q3.

Beautiful video. With the slow motion, the music and your voice, this is such a relaxing film to watch. I love London. Its magic.

Awesome video. I had no idea the lens curved the footage so much. I'm shooting my next short with the lens but in a rural area so hopefully it won't be so prominent. Even so it still looks good. I'm glad you included the raw footage so that I get to see what your grading is like

@@MobileFilmmaking thanks bud. I think the curve might be exaggerated by the iPhone 12 PM main lens
Very well presented! It's also cool that we get an OM4 and Zhiyun Q3 comparison towards the end. I think OM4 footage came out to be more smooth.
Great concept idea to do with the om4! Enjoying how we are getting more anamorphic options in the market.
This....is art. A beautifully shot anamorphic film exploring the capabilites of an anamorphic lens.

This was one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen. Really makes me wanna get into iPhone film making. Thank you, sir. Amazing job.
Great video Simon! Clearly a lot of effort gone into it. I particularly like the sunset shots. I'm thinking some kind of 1.55X anamorphic collaboration 😆

beautifully done! I'm using an anamorphic (1.33x) lens on my Galaxy and the results are tremendous. This is among the best videos I've seen, though, really showing the power of this type of lens while also being wonderfully crafted (and color-graded). Great work!!

Gotta say I enjoy your videos, informative and a pleasure to view. You took this to another level! Stunning images and some great information and advise, great to hear your thought process as you work with your tools. As you say a mistake helps you learn for next time. Raw footage at the end was interesting, I got the filmic pro footage right but completely missed the gimbal and Mimo app shots.
Anamorphic really excels with a frontal subject or moving subject in central plane, such as the boat, ducks or a mercedes driving behind the bus... It has that film look that is so hard to achieve without anamorphic.. Your videos are really inspiring...
Really informative and helpful video series, in your opinion have you found the iPhone 12 Pro Max or Samsung S21 to provide better quality videos when used in conjunction with ND Filters and Anamorphic lenses?
Wonderful short film, love it 💕💕💕 I wish there was a way to mount this anamorphic lens to the SmallRig/Moment style cases that use a bayonet mount, by far the most secure, better and stable way to mount an anamorphic lens like this. Thanks for sharing 🌈

Wow that was so inspirational thank you for such a quality video and great narration
Beautifully done!
Pretty amazing stuff. I think personally I'll stick to 1.33 anamorphic as some of the motion distortion of the 1.55 makes me feel a bit sick. I was blown away by some of the shots of London though - and good choice of music too. This is definitely a video to watch more than once! Thanks.
Damn this is beautifully shot! Felt like I was on holiday with this music too. lol Oddly the daytime flares looked like cgi to me but otherwise excellent. Those golden hour shots of regent street ah sooooo stunning!

lovely video ❤️ cool lens, not so sure about flare lines in strong light.. bit OTT
This totally sold me on an anamorphic lens. I'm keen to start shooting anamorphic. I must ask though, I noticed a lot of artifacts(?) or compression in some shots. 7:59 speciifcally. there is a lot of noise and distortion on the black gates near the building or in the wheel wells of the cars. Is this a limitation of the digital sensor in lowlight conditions? If not I'd love to know what produces those artifcacts.

Hi Simon, great moody footage and wonderful London vibe! And bringing back some fond memories as well... For my taste, there is too much lens distortion and also some fringing visible. Did you shoot at 4k? Would distortion correction in post make it less obvious? I'm thinking about getting an anamorphic lens, but I'm hesitating to get the 1.55x as it is so wide. What is your preference? 1.33x or 1.55x?

Bro, how make the black bar going down in post? thanks
I don't really like the anamorphic flare on the sun. I think they'll have to look more natural to be able to use them for a client. But it was so beautifully filmed. Loved the movement and compositions. Does the flickering not happen in 24/25/30 fps? Is there no way of getting rid of the green dots?

Only by adding some kind of hood big enough or maybe a DoF adapter
I would like to ask for your opinion. I can't decide whether to go for 1.55x anamorphic or 1.33x anamorphic for nature shots. I make hiking videos so wide shots are wanted but I fear after watching your video that 1.55x will make everything too rounded.

Amazing
If I were to attempt use with a DJI Osmo 3, are there any limitations I would need to account for? How much gear can the OM3 accommodate?
@SiHorrocks
3 жыл бұрын
if you add a case and an anamorphic, you will probably be close to the max payload or over. Your gimbal will still work but I find there's a little extra side to side wobble. I fixed a few shots in Premiere using warp stabilizer. But if you add counterweights to your OM 3 you might do better
How did you correct the wobble distortion in premiere? Did you slow the speed down with warp stabilizer? I use a ulanzi case to attach the lens but the wobble kills me.
@SiHorrocks
3 жыл бұрын
I had to use warp stabilization then export, then import the stabilized video and then slow it down to 40%
was it desqueezed in filmic pro, or post? I need to get my phone out and about more. seems such a waste to have all this good gear and not use it., keep up you're good work :)

Did you use optical flow in davinci resolve when you slowed the clips down? Because normally 24fps doesnt look this smooth on any iphone.

Bump.
I love the ultra-wide Aspect Ratio! Was only recently re-reading an article on the making of PATTON in the August 1970 issue of American Cinematographer magazine which I keep in my collection. Patton utilized the DIMENSION 150 process based on 70mm film and ultra-wide lenses. Seeing your footage and the original presentation of Patton on a monitor screen, does not do justice to the majestic scope of the images. Your compositions were superb, but I didn't care for the oversaturated and intrusive lens flares from this optic.
Can we use this on 11 pro max
What ND did you use for this video ?
Hey does anyone know if there is any Android software that is capable of editing 1.55 anamorphic footage? I'm using kinemaster and that supports only 1.33. By the way Simon great video. Cheers from Slovenia.
I’m struggling. I’m using the smooth 4, but the gimbal arm is in my shots… looks like the OM 4 won’t have those issues? Did you find the same thing? Am I using the 1.55 on the wrong lens? Help!

@SiHorrocks
3 жыл бұрын
place the clip on a 24fps sequence and slow to 40%
Superb shots, especially those taken at night in Regent Street. Yet, 2 major limitations for me about that specific lens: the double blue/cyan lens flare is often ruining it, and the angle is too wide making for disturbing barrel distortions. This distortion makes it unnatural to the eye. You can really feel the ultra wide angle when it shouldn’t be that intrusive. I believe such « Panavision » shots are not very suited for a city, which is more about verticality. Tarantino movie you quote is about the horizontality of the American wilderness, and even the haberdashery is about low ceilings with many recesses making it much larger than it probably is.

The image quality is awful, especially since you invoked a cinema classic at the beginning - Panavision 70. And no amount of poetic incantation will help here. You have effectively discouraged me from buying a lens, or in fact a lens cap.
