The Positive Grid Spark Go is an ultra portable practice amp that is absolutely stacked with features. Aside from using Positive Grids huge library of amps and effects, it doubles as a bluetooth speaker, jam buddy, and recording interface.
In the video I get to the bottom of whether this tiny amp has the power to record great sounding guitars right into your PC and I stack it up against a real power house for guitar tones. Let's jump in.

Seconded. Just bought mine yesterday and it’s just baffling how clear it sounds for how small it is. It doesn’t sound like a cheap toy. And if you go demo this thing, remember that through the app you can adjust levels and make it even louder. I was a little underwhelmed with the volume in-store but when I got it home and started tweaking channel volumes and other settings, you’ll be surprised at the volume you get out of it. But most importantly, the sound quality out of the speaker is just better than every other battery powered travel amp I’ve tried or heard. Don’t know how they did it, but I even tried the battery powered Boss Katana (can’t remember full name) and the Boss sounded like garbage, it really sounded like a tiny toy amp: Somehow, the PG Spark Go makes a little amp sound like a bigger amp. The tones are clean and the app is amazing, the app was really my selling point. You can quickly and incredibly easily download custom patches that people have made into your rig (through your phone), there’s backing tracks galore, and even a “smart Jam” option that figures out what you’re playing and adds bass and drum accompaniment. Don’t hesitate, it’s actually in sale at Guitar Center right now for $109 ($120 total after taxes) GO GET IT! you’ll love it!

Bullshit. For a $120 the consumer should not have to finish the programming or software updates. That's like buying a car brand new and it comes without headlights, turn signals, and an alternator.

Hey dude, great video. To clarify, would the guitar playing with whatever Spark Tone you use be the raw input into your DAW? And from there, you could add effects onto that Spark Tone with plugins, etc. if you chose to? I guess it would be silly to do that and layer the effects but I was just wondering about the logistics of it. If you just wanted a clean tone into your DAW to then use with your plugins, you would not have any Spark effects on, right?
@JackTaylorGuitars
7 ай бұрын
Thanks so much man, I'm glad you enjoyed it! So the tone into the DAW is the tone you're running on the amp. I use the Spark like a virtual amp running straight into the DAW via USB but you absolutely could dial a nice clean in your Spark and then throw effects on afterwards. Hope that helps mate, thanks again 🤘

Not stupid at all mate! Honestly, I can't quite remember... I haven't used this to record since the video tests cause I've just been using my normal rig. My gut feeling is no on both counts. Very loud 5 watts for heavy sounds but the acoustic sounds and cleans need to be louder and need balancing. I normally use a Blackstar rig (I prefer modulation, I have a twin reverb and various tube amps of various sizes though). I am setting up my patches right now for my next gig and will try out the Mini in a Headrush 12" 2000 watts. This basically has the same functions as the 40 but if you ve never used a Spark before, I highly recommend this one. Ah dude that sucks, I hope you get it sorted! It is great though overall. Thanks for watching man 🤘
I've owned all 3 spark amps, they all sound the same in software/headphones/recording, the only difference is the speaker cab size. So if you only play with headphones you should get this over the spark 40

Noob question: What's the easiest way to record directly from the amp (not using a mic setup) and what do I need?
@JackTaylorGuitars

Hey dude! The absolute easiest way to record from it is via the USB out. You’ll need a DAW, digital audio workstation, like Logic Pro X on Mac or something like Ableton, Reaper, FL Studio, and then you plug the amp in to your computer and set it as the input device in settings. It sound like a lot but it’s quite straight for are when you get into it. Hope that helps dude and thanks for watching 🤘

Could the line be split and panned live into two powered cabs? You could potentially even have the line going direct into a p.a. system@@JackTaylorGuitars

Has anyone managed to get this plugged via usb into Cubase successfully? What audio interfaces are people using with the Spark Go?
@JackTaylorGuitars

Haven't tried Cubase so hopefully someone can help you here. The interface I'm using is a UA Volt276 but you might have more luck bypassing the interface for input completely and just recording via USB. Hope you sort it mate! 🤘

@@JackTaylorGuitars I ended up getting a Mac Mini 2014 and can record the Spark Go into GarageBand and it sounds great. Only MacOS supports using more than one audio interface at a time - so I couldn’t use my usual interface that my speakers are plugged into at the same time as the Spark
Great video! I've been getting a lot of latency which I connect via USB. I'm using Ableton as my DAW. Buffer settings are the usual ones I use with my other interfaces. Any suggestions on how to go about this? Thanks

I have the same issue, nothing i did helped . Technically it does record sound, but with the latency it ruins it.
Alright, now what was the master and mix magic you did?
@JackTaylorGuitars
19 күн бұрын
I think I might have oversold it when I used the term magic 😂 But I basically treated this like I would a regular track (which is not a ton tbh); levels, some reverb to tie the performances together, a little bit of EQ, limiters if needed. Cheers for watching mate!

Unless you have computers and the skills to upgrade the software or firmware, I don't even know what firmware is, you will be stuck with a $120 amp with no chorus, no delay, no flanger, no nothing. Stay away from this product at all costs. Like the cost of a $120 paperweight. This thing should never have left the factory like this just because the demand was so high out the gate.
@JackTaylorGuitars

Sorry to hear you're having issues mate! I mean, there's nothing wrong with the product, unless yours is genuinely broken. It's just a digital modelling amp that's pretty open about the fact you're gonna need a smart phone or whatever to use it properly. Ask their support to talk you through updating the software and I'm sure you'll be good to go. Cheers!

It works same as my regular amps. Same shit smaller with all kinds of effects.
It also works as audio interface and speaker out. You can use it with Bias FX 2 and Blackstar St James Suite and etc.. It gets much louder than the Iphone version that way 3x to 5x louder maybe. When available I rather use Bias FX 2 instead of limited Spark software
