I spent 20 years of my life as a painter and painted many stained wood cabinets white. With almost all of them it was primer with a good oil primer-sealer and brush paint the finish coat. But first was a really good scrubbing with a strong detergent to get rid of the years of accumulated dirt and grease.

What degreaser did you use? I’m a renter and the cabinets above the stove have no grease vent. The stove is directly next to a wall as well that has nothing to prevent grease or food from falling thru. The LL, Brooksville, won’t allow you to disconnect the stove for cleaning. So if you live in the unit for 32 years as I do I can’t clean the wall, the cabinets, or the floor around the stove. What are some things you know I can do? Some of the units in the complex have had grease fires. There are close to 7,000 units in this complex and all the tenants desire to properly clean.

Paper was supposed to be used on the cabinet door way. After you prime and paint, the paint cracks from the plastic. Then, when you apply your final coat, flakes can break off from the plastic into the paint while you're spraying.

@@t-oz6wk He's actually completely right, if you use plastic the primer/paint will flake off because it doesn't stick to the plastic. There is a special plastic you can buy although more expensive and it helps but paper is the best for spraying cabinets. Plastic should only be used above the cabinets and on the counters. Even when you tape up windows to shoot the window sills it's best to put a 6" piece of paper so it doesn't flake up on you. That's why whenever you cover a ceiling you usually use 12" paper rather than using plastic, the paper retains the access primer/paint. You only use plastic if it's to certain a small ceiling like in the bathroom/closet/etc. or for example here in the vid where its just used to contain the overspray

If I see people wanting to paint nice cherry cabinets I try to talk them out of it unless they are beat up. Older maple cabinets look like yellowed crap after a couple decades but paint up to be like factory new. Oak is ok to paint if you don't paint them white and I refuse to try to fill the grain again. I recently painted a kitchen worth of 40 year old knotty pine cabinets that were in rough shape and made them look brand new. It all depends on what someone wants really and how much they wanna pay.

Touch up is also a must too when needed. Also, when it comes to lighting I made sure my husband installed; I call it a "Stadium Bright" type of lighting with those new LED flush mount ceiling lights that has the strips in them. I so love my kitchen!🥰😍🥰 I also have the sun coming in directly in to the kitchen every morning so it is so beautiful to me, to walk in to that white kitchen every day❤😍🥰

Grandma's ass. They were putting cabinets in exactly like that in 2015 probably still do but I don't mess with cabinets anymore. These cabinets are now destroyed as there's no way that paint can adhere to the sealed wood very well. They are going to flake and chip all to hell and look awful in just about a year or so. They are maple wood with cherry stain.

The only issue: have fun washing the dishes after or eating paint 😂 (otherwise, great job! And this is obviously more to the homeowner who decided not to remove the dishes first), and I know it’s taped up but the cracks between closed cabinet door and cabinet are sufficient for the aerosolized paint to penetrate and settle inside as dust. If you have quality cabinets, they all have a tiny rubber stopper on the door to prevent the gross sounding slam when closed… that’s the part I’m referring to.

For the future, get more experienced on your trigger finger. You’re starting on the actual surface every time you stop and go, which will cause heavy areas, possibly sags or runs. Instead, start off the surface then onto it. Once you get comfortable it’ll become faster and you’ll know when to use the butterfly effect and it’ll be uniform all together👍🏽
