Using the Knew Concepts Fretsaw: sawing dovetail pin waste

Here are a couple of tips to maximise your results with the Knew Concepts fretsaw. The wood being sawn is 20mm thick (a fat 3/4") Hard Maple.

    What blade are you using? That seems to cut a lot faster than mine does in maple

    @@derekcohen1000 that seems to be a 15 tpi blade. I've got Olson 12.5 tpi skip blades. I wonder why they don't cut the same. Maybe technique... Or they're not as hard possibly. Thanks

    @@Jped277 The tooth set and tooth rake angle affect the speed and smoothness of the cut.

    Hi William. If I was to purchase a new KC fretsaw for dovetailing, I would just get a 3" one with swivel heads for the blade. That will give you all the depth of cut you need, even for wide cabinets. At 3", even the aluminium ones would be light and nimble. I have 5" versions because that is what I was testing at the time Lee Marshall and I were designing these fretsaws for woodworkers. Of the 5", I prefer the pre-birdcage version as it is lighter. The birdcage design was a solution to the high cost of titanium.

    @@derekcohen1000 I've actually just ordered the 5" version of the birdcage , I already have the first type that was produced in the 3" . Thanks for the reply Derek ,much appreciated .
