Using the geometric mean to determine the missing parts of a triangle

Learn about the geometric mean of numbers. The geometric mean of n numbers is the nth root of the product of the numbers. To find the geometric mean of n numbers, we first multiply the numbers and then take the nth root of the product.

    What I found helpful in explaining this to my son was to keep the triangles all together and labeling which angles are congruent while still all in one triangle. Then explaining each opposite side of each congruent angle is proportional. Then when you separate the triangles it is easy to get the orientation they all represent. Your videos are great by the way and much better explanation then my sons teacher has. I had an awesome one back in the 1980s so I feel like he is being cheated.

    What are the proportions to find the legs or the hypotenuse of a right triangle with geometric mean.

  • @perry7003

    @perry7003

    4 жыл бұрын

    You can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the leg/hypotenuse of a right triangle if you have two legs or one leg and the hypotenuse. Pythagorean Theorem: hypotenuse=sq rt of leg 1 squared plus leg 2 squared, or a squared plus b squared = c squared where a and b are the legs and c is the hypotenuse.

    i'm sorry this is so late but it's called simplifying radicals. because within radicals if there's a perfect square with an integer root then you can place it to the left of the radical (in this case the sqrt of 4 is 2)
