Using the Cut & Butt to replace factory seams

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The 49 chevy has had some poor repairs done where the factory quarters were joined. Using the simple cut and butt to repair these areas with the greatest of ease.

'49' Chevs' and 'Stick around.' Who can resist watching 'the boss' in his new shades turning rusted junk metal into gold. I live in Canada, and Fitzee's Fabrications - Montreal to Fitzees' is about 28 hours. Thank goodness for the internet and commercial-free KZread.

You could do "Cut & Butt" video's everyday on your channel and I would watch every last one.... There is just something about Common Sense welding that grabs my attention.... And I want to thank you Fitzee for sharing these techniques with us younger gents (& I'm sure ladies), Your teaching should be paid for and for it to be free, I appreciate it.... Bless you and our based Canadian neighbors!!

Always enjoy your videos. There's always something to learn. Just the fact that someone is wearing glasses provides "some" protection from UV Ray. Glasses, whether glass or plastic cut UV Rays. I also noted, in your video, when you are welding you don't see the blue flash in your face. Proves your technique is good and works !! Thanks for all the videos. Best Regards - Mike

Thankyou, I really appreciate your show! I'm a metal man as well, and I enjoy the cars you have been working on, I have been getting lots of tips from you on building complex shapes, and little things like the angle of the cut, I did cut and butt be fore but now the pieces of metal will fit even better. Very much appreciate the videos on the quarter panel from flat material, and just taking it in sections makes it so much more manageable. Great show! From Wichita Ks

Never seen your channel before. Thought I'd pass a pro tip to your readers, as you were saying the metal was ground to much. Tip on dent repair, do your grinding before you straighten the dent while the surfaces are smoother, this will eliminate grinding too much metal off the high spots after you straighten.

Hey fitze. Awesome job as usual. I have been doing insurance collision work for forty one years now so used to thin metal that’s zinc coated hence very thin, susceptible to massive warping and zinc coated conducive to blowing holes in your weld area. What works better than straight oxygen is 75%oxygen 25%argon A lot less spattering and blowing holes especially in thinner metals. Just a thought, you probably know this already though. As well I never knew about these glasses either 👍

When I tack weld without my helmet, I smell burnt flesh that was my face for the next 2 days. Those glasses are definitely a fashion statement. My welding teacher told us if we didn't hear eggs frying, then we are not welding correctly. The Fleetline is looking good.

I just ran across your channel and was very.. very impressed. I will be continuing to watch more more. I'm not preaching but I did want to point out that those glasses and if I'm correct, they're designed more for grinding than welding. I have a set and didn't realize that and I did some welding with them. Also, the next 2 days my whole face was sunburned😊 Again, not preaching and knowledge is power.

I learned a ton from you fitzee! I just tried to do a long curved wheel arch. I cut the piece of metal to a curve i templated.. Problem was i cut it flat but when i curved the metal into a wheel arch, it changed my outer crown curve. I had the whole thing welded solid before i found it was off. I had to cut half of it and reset the piece. Luckily i left it just wide enough for room to adjust it.

You're styling with those fancy welding glasses! What does Wendy think? I'm with you on the difficulty of seeing those seams through a helmet. Thanks for taking the time to video and share.

This tip about having a strong magnetic light is something I discovered that helped. I also don't keep a glove on one hand so I can more easily run my finger across the weld. When I started, one of the hardest things to figure out was seeing the weld and knowing where you were welding. I still mess up but have gotten much better with practice.
