Using REAL HIGHWAY LAYOUTS to get high scores in Freeways!

Ойындар

What secrets of highway interchange layout design have I picked up as a civil engineer of 10 years specializing in highway design? I should be really good at this right? Right????

After watching your previous Freeways video, I went and got the game myself. I got 437 on the first one, number 15, by doing a very complex junction not at all like yours, which simply uses less concrete. I only got 320 on the 2nd one, number 14, probably due to tight corners. My solution was basically the same for the 3rd, number 13, but must've used a tiny bit more concrete. I got 359 on the 4th, number 12, probably overly complex and may redo like yours. I got 352 on the 5th, number 11, with a similar design to you. I got 448 on the 6th, number 10, basically copying you. I got 335 on the 7th, number 9, using the through roads plus a backwards roundabout over them with roads to the car washes and a bypass to the lower ones. Redoing it like yours, I got 492. I got 573 on the 8th, number 20, after refining my previous design (the same as yours) to minimise bridges and road length. 1. 269 2. 416 using magic roundabout style 3. 387 using a simpler version of the sort of thing you did 4. 319 using a big roundabout 5. 283 using a bad triangle design 6. 564 using a hamburger roundabout (no horizontal cut throughs, only vertical ones) 7. 317 using a design I could probably simplify 8. 491 using a hamburger roundabout 9. 492 10. 448 11. 352 12. 359 13. 176 using a roundabout 14. 320 15. 437 17. 256 using a fan style design 18. 298 is just a mess 20. 573 21. 300 as a double roundabout The rest not done yet.

I grew up in Marne, attending that church (Berlin Baptist) when it was located on the Eastbound off-ramp. The side entrance steps are all of 12 feet from the ramp traffic. Saw a few cars take the ramp too fast and wind up in the trees... Thankfully there were never any pedestrian-involved incidents there, despite a parking lot across the ramp from the church. Fun fact: The I-196/US-131 interchange is another interchange featured as a pic in this game. I've forgotten which number/level it's behind though.

When’s the album gonna drop? You crack me up every time you sing! 666 likes and zero dislikes after ~45 minutes is impressive! Looks like the architects are all busy this morning!

the complexity factor isn't how complex the structure is, it's the starting conditions. basically it just shows how hard the level is

That picture of the exchange in Burlington must be old. Like everything else within a 100km of the CN Tower, it’s practically a suburb of Toronto now. Every highway I’ve been on there is surrounded by buildings.

I wish you would redraw the levels sometimes when you make a mistake or want to try something different. That’s what I like about your poly bridge videos: you try different solutions and try to optimize. I would have liked to know how much more you would have scored on that last level without the 90 degree bend.

As somebody who makes tiny mistakes in this game, its sometimes easier to take the small mistake rather than restart the level and risk a bigger one

@@DrRussian I appreciate that would be easier, but I don’t think it would be more entertaining if he tried different stuff anyway to try and improve the design. It would be easier for him to just stop as soon as he completes the challenge on Poly Bridge 2, but I enjoy him taking the time to iterate the design.

Just wait, you'll eventually get to levels where the game will not let you bridge over other roads. Also, the Stopwatch building, when you're on the main map, lets you toggle whether you see the scores and number assigned to the smaller squares or not. In the other direction, the Question Mark building shows you the pictures you've unlocked as well as some tips for those who have been just brute forcing solutions.

I think the scores calculated as (100*flow*complexity)/concrete. From the past video I didn't see any change in complexity so I assume that represents how difficult the level is
