Good introduction to sighting compass. I m a prepper and occasionally I go out and bury a cache of food. I mark my caches in my log with GPS location and just in case GPS is shut down I take a double bearings with a Lena’s tic or sighting compass. Where the bearings cross X marks the place.

Good video. It also looks like the line in the mirror can show us the “Back” bearing more accurately.

The line in the mirror is there to avoid parallax errors. and has nothing to do with back-bearings. Parallax errors are that what you see in the movie @ 02:08.If you don't look straight up the bezel of the compass but little sidewards you wil see that the compass needle wil not mor perfectly be aligned with the red shed. The Silva Expedition S has two lines in the mirror, a vertical and a horizontal. The crossing of the two lines must be exactly above the middle of the compass needle. Thats the way to make a accurate sighting.

What brand is your mirror compass ? I can't see the magnetic declination adjustment.
