I followed your exact steps for plate solving and now the meridian flip on my Celestron mount and I'm like you were in the video... WOW IT WORKS !! ha Thanks so much for all your help in these videos. I use BYEos for my astrophotography, but as of yet, that program doesn't do an automatic flip, or plate solve. So I'm learning APT... Thanks again.

Thank you. BYEos is a good program and I started with it and still use it occasionally but I knew I was going to get a monochrome camera therefore was going to need something different to control my camera I decided to learn APT. Once I got the ASI1600 it was real easy to to start taking pictures. I would be lost without plate-solving now, it saves so much time. - Kurt

I always worry about cable snags on meridian flips. Wise to watch the first few times to be sure all is well. I’m happy to leave gear running unattended before and after but I still find myself going out to check if a flip is due. I have visions of my laptop being dragged off the table etc. Also gives me a chance to check the last sub for focus in case it’s changed. Check for dew on scope optics etc. I know lots of people run remote setups but I guess I’m over anxious with my gear.

Great video! I have a question though; is there any way to simulate a meridian flip during the day time using APT?

Goof question. I think I remeber doing something like this a long time ago just pointing slewing to an object before it gets to the meridian, then wait and see if it does the flip. Also, might want to pose this question on the APT Forum or FB page. The developers usualy get back to you quickly. Good Luck

This is very helpful but I had to change the order of events to get it to work. If my 'control guiding' box is already ticked before I tick the 'auto flip' box I get 2 dialog boxes come up and when I OK the second one about guiding, the 'auto flip' button unticks itsself... So, I leave ticking the 'control guiding' box until after everything else is done. I got it to work only once last night thanks to it not being 100 % clear. If I can get it working on 3 consecutive occasions, then I can celebrate

Just to note that due to ASCOM having the final say on when to flip, I would advise that the delay after meridian is set to 15 mins to override this .. ASCOM probably has 10 mins maximum delay.

@@AstroQuest1 Hi there. I have a question, by taking a photos before flipping and after does the stacking software stacks them properly or we have to flip them manual before stacking? As i can see the photo before flipping and after are in different orientation. Thanks in advance.

thank you, really good demonstration. but how could apt know the respective gap of each telescope? do you input your critical area, for example if the telescope reaches 87 degrees (alt) an now the gap is very close, so the mount makes the meridian flip... in my opinion it could be advantageous to define a „forbidden area“ to avoid a crash. cheers roberto

Hi can I just ask where should the RGB graph be for a dslr. I’ve been told 3/4 to the left. Where would you suggest the RGB graph should be.

Do you have to set anyting up in EQMod to let APT do its thing in order to flip? I left APT ond defold settings: 5 min. before and 5min. after. Has it to be 15 min.? Or do you have to set anything up in EQMod Toolbox etc.? Thank's and big hug for all youre tramendous help.

I think you might need to check that the limits box isn’t ticked in eqmod or set limits that let you pass the meridian by about 10 minutes or eqmod will stop tracking to prevent accidental damage being caused. Check Chris Selito’s videos on this as I’m just going from memory.
