In your videos I see you always use the image preview drop down menu to switch between 1:1 and fit view. Instead, you can just double click on the image to switch between the two views. A real time-saver.

I know you use a dedicated Astro cam but for those of us who use dslr, is it best to focus with live view or take a quick snap and check focus. I find my live view in apt a little unstable. Another great video 👍👊

Very interesting question. I have not used APT much with a DSLR. I used BYEOS with my Canon T3i/600d happily for years and only started APT because I was getting the ASI1600. When I started using APT with my DSLR iI noticed the live view was not nearly as good as it was with BYEOS so what I did was just focused using BYEOS and then used APT for everything else. However, knowing what I know now I think it might be better just taking 3-5 sec images rather than the DSLR live view. - Good Luck

Thank you! Do you use bin 4x4 on purpose for focusing?

Will it not be better to focus with a binning of 1x1?

the 4x4 makes it brighter and easier to see but 1x1 should give it more resolution. I have experimented in the past I found not much difference in the look of the image but increased brightness helped more. However, I would experiment to would works best for your own set up.

@@AstroQuest1 Hi I see you focus by binning 4x4 and have settings for bahtinov aid at bin 1x1...does that make the focus correct?

@@evelinakassabova395 Hi Evelina, I have actually done experiments and tried several different binning values, the results indicate it does not matter. The advantage that 4x4 has is that it is brighter. Cheers Kurt

I've had a few practice sessions for this alone, my mask focus aid typically jumps between 0.20-0.30 but after a certian amount of time can fluctuate up to 1.20 and bounce around there for a bit. I put this down to seeing conditions because lightly adjusting the focus knob in either direction has no improvement. For a brief moment it might read 0.05 or something, but typically its always changing. If you cannot keep the figure at approximately anything closer than 0.20 for more than a minute consistantly (because of seeing conditions) is there really any hope in going on to align, guide and shoot? I genuinely don't know, but I assume given the very delicate nature of AP, this too is an exact science which must be met precisely before you can expect anything half decent - not much one can do though if it's down to the atmosphere, sadly. Thanks

A lot of my problems were due to Backlash in the focuser. I am actually using NINA for autofocus these days.

Hi, why did you input 20 in the focused step size?

That is how you want the focuser to adjust or turn. I did some experiments where I used larger and smaller numbers to see what gives the optimal adjustment. For my set up, anything smaller barely moves the focuser and anything larger moves it too much when I press the >> (5x coarse) coarse adjustment.
