Do you know how to attach a Thunderbolt 27inch Cinema Display - I'm having a hard time connecting it. It works with the thunderbolt 2 to usb-c adapter that apple sells however the when I closed my M1 Max 16inch MacBook Pro the monitor goes black..... The monitor can't used the power cable since it has magsafe 1 but I have the converter attached to MagSafe 2 which works perfect with my 15inch MBP 2015. Any help will be great!!!

Oh my goodness! I had two 32 inch Apple Cinema displays for the longest time! What a design!!! Then I moved on to two LG 5K Untrafines. Those are lovely!!! Then I sold those and now use an LG OLED. Yes, I finally went OLED. The best part of Apple’s design, gosh, the one cord, the fact that the bezels actually sit about 1mm off the glass and that space all around the screen was their cooling. Perhaps Steve Jobs would roll in his grave when he saw the massive cheese grater they have now in the XDR!!!

Note: I have a USB Type C Male to DVI-I female adapter noting the Cinema Display has a DVI - D connector. Even though it still physically fits could this be a problem? Being DVI-D as opposed to DVI - I? (I have been able to see the apple logo and loading bar on start up) though only thing i've been able to see on the screen. HELP!

It does pair with my iPhone, but that becomes a tricky balancing act and it does not do so consistently. When I called Apple, they told me the display is not compatible with the MacBook. I know that is at least partly untrue. Is there a workaround for the camera? Many thanks.

A vintage monitor on a vintage lenses channel: this is what I call consistency :-) Speaking of the new monitor, it depends on your budget. For my secondary workstation I bought a Dell Ultra Thin 2719DC, it does the job and doesn't cost too much. For what will be my primary location (soon I will move to another town and go to a new studio) I am checking out the ProArt series by Asus, the opinions I have heard so far have all been positive. Then of course there are valid models produced by Dell, LG, and of course Eizo. Lately, there are MSI monitors who are going strong, but personally, I am not thrilled, too. However, on Jonny Elwyn's blog there is a rather interesting article that talks about monitors, it might be useful to you.

Right? Had it laying around anyway so might as well put it to use, I kind of love it. Thanks for the monitor suggestions, it's been since before 2005 since i've had a non apple monitor as my primary (this one, and two iMacs) so I feel i'm WAY out the loop as to what's invogue now. Very specific broadcast demands so narrows it down a bit, but people collectively tend to have greater knowledge/experience than I can read about online. Thanks!

Not sure if you can accurately match two screens, although there are some optical tools that you can buy to set that. You can find the with color cards/grey cards.Forget what the device is called, but it's about $200 unfortunately. Just not sure how well it works, especially for the older monitor. How do I know if my Cinema Display (30") supports DHCP ? There are two types of adapters, the old school and the 'active' Apple have made (most) 30" displays 'silently' DHCP capable - these are the ones build after march 28th 2006. Anyone? The serial-number is CY63212AUG1 Apple's website thinks it is an iPhone 3G. It looks like August is in the name (which, if true, does not help either). Option 2 is to check the other added hardware functions- these are contrast ratio upped from 400:1 to 700:1 and the brightness upped from 270 cd/m2 to 400 cd/m2 Please do share your knowledge, it would help me out a lot for getting the correct adapter (and I am sure it is a really fun fact for anyone with a 30" cinema display). Hi Mark, any thoughts on a connecting the new M1 MacBook Pro to a 30" Cinema Display...?

Thought about it, still haven’t pulled the trigger, kind of hoping apple drops a more affordable monitor in the new year. This one is actually making do for now.

I have tried 3 different adapters to connect my 2021 16"MacBook Pro to a 30" Cinema Display. Running Monterey 12.4 with a M1 max chip. They all work fine for about 10 minutes then begin flashing on and off or, in one case, just stay dark. The adapters are all Dual Link and I have tried one with HCDP on and one with HCDP off. I'd appreciate any solution if you get the new MBP and get it working with the ACD.

I made a video on how to mail manual focus. It’s really a matter of using the camera aides, practice and eyes lol. Hard to be more specific than that mate, just need to try for yourself beyond that.

If your using a M1 Max why don't you just use the HDMI? I got 2 of the 20" models (I believe) today from work and simply plugged them into the wall and then plugged the HDMI into my M1 Max and it worked as it should. No adapters at all. There is a mess of cables with that box that comes with it, not sure if it is standard so if not then I guess I lucked out

Contax Zeiss. 35, 21 and 60 Macro. Always shoot everything on old lenses always. ;) I own one canon 24 1.4 L EF lens and that’s it. ;)

I have a question. I have a 30 inch apple cinema my brother in law gave me. We plugged it in, and it didnt do anything. No power light or anything. Does it need a video signal in order to work, or is my Cinema Monitor ded?

  • @MarkHoltze

Hard to say mate. I don’t have a 30 inch to know first hand how it works. There should be some indication of power I would assume but maybe it needs to be fully plugged in all ports for full power cycle.

@@MarkHoltze So i figured it out. It needs 5 volts from pin 14 on the DVI cable. I plugged the power, the DVI, the Firewire, and the USB into my pc, and it didnt work. I had heard things about the usb or the firewire being the issue, so i unplugged both and it worked!
