The suction is to pull the air out of the cracks so the resin could be pushed in and even then it often doesn't go in really deep. The cracks themselves are within the glass and do not reach the surface. Sometimes drilling another hole at the end of the cracks allows you to use suction to pull the resin through (you'll need two kits) or pressure to push the resin through the crack but more often it's just a place to try again once your first incomplete try has hardened sealing the original impact area. The idea of drilling is to open a passage to the crack within the glass. The professional glass repair equipment can apply greater suction and greater pressure than the hand kits. Typically, the DIY kits are used to just stop the crack from spreading further. Unless you practice a lot and are willing to drill multiple small holes for additional injection points and or to allow suction and pressure to pull the resin through the cracks, you're not going to wind up with a good repair. Polishing the surface afterwards can smooth out the excess resin but that also removes the oil phobic coatings.

I’ve thought this a few times. Even though this is an old video, I’m glad when they pop up as I keep learning. Thanks Zack!!
Not sure if this was mentioned before -- but when I attempted to repair a crack in my windshield many years ago, the kit that I bought came with a syringe pre-filled with resin and an attachable suction cup. The idea was that you would scrape the top layer off to expose the crack and remove any contaminants, place the cup with the syringe attached over the crack, suck the air out of the crack by pulling up on the plunger, then "force-inject" the resin by dropping the plunger. You would then repeat this process until you didn't see any more bubbles rising up during the suction phase. Because of the vacuum required, the crack could be no larger than the diameter of the cup -- or about 1" -- so the procedure wouldn't have worked with the crack on your display. And while I must confess that it didn't really work for me at the time, I can appreciate the potential validity of this process -- at least in theory -- and speculate that perhaps with better equipment (e.g. a larger syringe that could produce more vacuum -- the one supplied was small, to the point that I frequently ended up pulling the plunger out completely, by accident), the outcome might have been different.

This does actually work, I've done it several times. JRE just tried to go too quickly with it. First do it in a place with minimal UV and take your time applying a little resin and forcing it down into the crack with a plastic edge (I use a plastic gasket scrapper). Then when you finally have it worked in well put on the curing strips and just let it do it's thing naturally and slowly in indirect UV to help let air get out. (This is why on a car you use a vacuum pump, to pull the air out of the crack). Using a UV lamp to speed up the curing only means more air stays in the crack making the crack more visible. It won't fix it 100% and shattered edges will still be visible, but it keeps the shards together so they won't come out over time which is a big plus. The smell will fade with time, just have to keep it out of a cover at home for a few weeks.

depends on the viscosity of the glue, and whether capillary action will draw in correctly. i suspect your procedure is faulty, as i've seen this work personally.
Finally an honest review. Love your channel
Been looking for a way to fix my old phone. The windshield repair kits work well on my cars ( got several cracks awhile ago ). Was thinking the same, do it on the phone. So now thanks to this video I safe some bucks and have to go back searching for another way 😁😁😁
What’s up almost December 2019 and this shows up as recommended. Fine by me, just trying to Jerry Rig my life
Normally you would use a suction cup to remove the air trapped inside the cracks, simultaneously forcing the resin down into them. It should work for smaller chips and cracks, but I wonder if it might render under screen fingerprint readers inoperable....
That's really honest review. I liked it 👍
this repair actually does in fact work, if done correctly. Don't be afraid the let the resin sit to have time to work down into the crack, it will only harden when you make it by subjecting it to the u.v. don't manipulate the cracks any further by spreading them with a blade either and last you can work the resin in with a plastic blade. it just takes patience and time.

Jack Arnold yeah I used to work in a plastic prototype shop and the vacuum idea I watched those windshield fixes it's awesome the vacuums crucial course I would be afraid as well on putting pressure on to the LCD I don't want it to go underneath and that would just create a big flood of resin so yeah but it's have some time I'm assuming to settle into its natural habitat clean it not with as strong of an alcohol I'd say more of a you know when Dix is fine that's blow and but the like 60% alcohol and a rag just the clean the area so it kind of seeps into the cracks now let that air dry from my experience again with dealing with vacuums and resins and Ford Focus clear headlight lenses for example we made it by hand I would then possibly if you have something don't laugh that vibrates the phone while it's settling in there and that resin will get there and into those spots and then most importantly when you do apply that top sheet for the Cure the timing is crucial it looks like you pulled that off early and you pulled some of the resin out of the crack and I don't know if you used any kind of alcohol that's probably the crucial part of their to cuz that will if you have any other cleaning agents that has a substance in there that won't allow to stick your just pulling the resin right out when you pull that card off and then I saw your going at it with razor blade they do have plastic sharp blades and yeah you want wood or plastic not metal because not all of these Gorilla Glass are really glass that's my two cents I'm going to do some more research. by the way j7 small hairline crack in the top right corner from being in the back pocket Witcher tell everybody not to do

Jack Arnold greetings; whats ur thoughts about actually using the "windshield injector tool" to force the resin down into the crack/glass ??
An idea to force resin into the crack, apply the resin evenly, cover over the resined screen with plastic. Now put the phone into one of those vacuum food saver bags and draw out the air with the food savers pump forcing capillary action to fill the cracks.
This video may be old but it's useful. I saw an AD for a glass repair kit and they were advertising it for windshields and cellphones. Now I know it's just a simple windshield repair kit and can't be used on phones.
Also, on cars you are suppose to use a hand drill with a TINY drill bit on the crack origin so the resin can seep further down into the cracks, or at least thats how my dad does it for a living and he’s only shattered 1 windshield
Thx for that video! really loved it. Quick, to the point and funny! Thx man! =)
The sealant should dry for 30 minutes in sunlight/uv lighting. Also, the first step to sealing a windshield chip is to suck out the air trapped in the glass. The air is what creates those black areas.
You saved me a purchase. Thanks!
2019 and the amazon link still works Wow
Thank you, I was about to buy a kit.
I think this is worth another shot after 4 years.
finally a video that is not click bait
hi sir jerry, whats the best adhessive to use on a mobile phone LCD? please give me a tips, thank you in advance! 😟
Thanks. Looks like you saved me some money and time.
What if you used blow dryer to heat liquid creating it to be thinner to go thru the crack. Do you think it would work? I know on windshield repair, it was a hack I see them do to thin out the liquid.
Would transferring the liquid to a small needle/ syringe (diabetes needle for example) help get it into the cracks better?
Maybe try doing a vacuum sealed bag for additional pressure.

I wished you've tried vacuum to pull the air out of the cracks and push the resin into it
applying pressure would definitely improve the final result. I wonder if you took the touchscreen digitalizer apart from the display and applied pressure just on it, would it work better? Anyway, I think if you wanna get rid of cracks on your screen just replace the damn thing, that's the only sure way for this to work.
Digging into the cracks with a razor was his first mistake.

Hey Zack. I have a phone with a shallow SCRATCH on it back but you can still feel it when you run a finger nail over it. Will this method work on a phone back? The scratch is pretty small.

Lay a piece of glass slightly larger than the phone over it and weight down the glass to help force the resin into the cracks.

@JerryRigEverything does it works for small scratches? I have a very tiny scratch but it's deep. Did you tried using more pressure?
What I want to know is this; I have a crack on my phone 8 plus screen at the bottom near the home button. If I used windshield repair kit would it prevent the crack from getting worse?
Lol, i love this channel.
i have watched other videos and yes, youd have to push harder on the glue in order for the cracks to disappear.
For this application you to use a "thinner" resin.especially if you just let gravity seep the resin down into the cracks..

+Zac St. Louis not had a chance yet. Im going to look in to it though still at some point. Also looking in to ways to do cold pulls on bonded glass lcds. Played around with heating a bit of wire with some success. Scratched the crap out of the polarizing layer and cracked the lcd but it was doa any ways. The idea of heating the wire is actually quite sound. Instead of heating the lcd/glass you simply run 5 volts from a computer power supply through some moly wire or the thinnest singe strand metal guitar string you can lay your hands on. That gets the wire quite hot. Getting under the glass between it and the lcd the idea is the wire heats the glue and cuts it. Like i said i scratched the crap out of the polorizer and got a little impatient and broke the lcd towards the middle of the attempt. If any one else wants to try heres a short list of how i set up the rig i made 3/4 inch chip board 1/8 inch plexi sheet 2x 3 inch dry wall screws some moly wire. Screw in the dry wall screws through the plexi in to the chip board run the moly wire between the screws making sure it is tight. Attach positive 5 volt lead to one screw neg to the other and turn on. A computer power suply works great using the yellow and black wire. 12 volt might be to much and burn the wire in half but give it a shot. Or you can use a variable power supply. A chager for a phone etc will not work not enough amps. Get the moly wire between the lcd and glass gentle downward pressure on the glass while moving the lcd assembly slowly up the wire wth gentle presure. Keep gentle downward pressure on the edges of the assembly and slow steady pace and you should et the glass off. Don't go to fast you'll break the lcd like i did in my experiment (sorry no video)

Thanks for keeping it short and to the point.
In your case, you should try putting it in a container and pressur the container with air... I've thought about this... cause I use to have a small chip on both my car and my s7
I used a diamond bit on a dremel last night and it got in there pretty good seems to be ok
Push a bit on the glue when aplying it to your cracks, so you wiggle the glass a bit. Then it get in between the glass.
im about to buy. tnx jerry youve stopped me
Does that glue conducts electricity? Cause i have a small hole in a corner of glass and there are some microscheme. I used my electro tape to protect it from ay liquid.
Could you try waterproofing a phone with fish tank silicon, I have been curious if it would work.
On the newer Samsung Galaxy Edge devices (S6 and S7) especially if the crack or chip is not around the edge you can actually apply pressure or vacuum without worrying about cracking. It's on a plastic substrate and it's flexible. (I'm sure you already know) I don't think the added pressure would damage it. I believe we all would love a video on that. I wish i could do it but my S7 edge is just fine and i don't do what you do professionally. Thanks!

Very useful
I mean the glass used on phones is a bit different than that of a car window... For instance Gorilla Glass is processed much differently than basic tempered glass.
try heating up the phone with resin on to get more resin in the glass, once cured and scraped off use a very light t cut to Polish the cured resin. Im an ex windscreen fitter and repair specialist.

Do this but try a Loca (wet install) screen protector on a cracked screen. something tells me that may have better results.
Can you use LOCA 1000 or 2500 glue to fix it? which one is better?
I also call for a redo, not only to add pressure but also a screen protector before you put the stuff under the UV light, resulting in a screen protector stuck to cured windshield stuff (sorry I forgot what it's called)

Which BTW I've tried a few times, with mixed but mostly successful ending. My Note 8 had 2 cracks, one all the way to top and the other at bottom that are no longer visible unless you really look for it. This way the resin is spread evenly across the screen and doesn't need to be scraped off. Did you notice that when he put the strips of plastic down the cracks were invisible. Warning, you must use a screen protector that has adhesive on the screen side of will fall off!
