Using a LIFTING BELT - Everything You Need to Know

Спорт

Should you wear a belt? What size? Thickness? How tight should it be? Today we are discussing LIFTING BELTS!
BLOC Staff Coaches, Rebekah Cygan & Caleb Krieg share everything you need to know about choosing the right lifting belt for you.
In general, lifting belts help increase the force transmission of our spine and trunk muscles. Belts are not cheating!
Wearing a belt should not give you a false sense of confidence. You still need to know how to isometrically contract your spinal erectors.

    One thing they neglected to mention is when to put on the belt. Another SS video suggested putting on the belt on your second heaviest warm up squat. Seems to work well.

    In terms of lifting equipment, I think the best investments are a belt like you said and wrist wraps. These are definitely helpful in getting an individual stronger.

    I have a lever belt identical to the one in this video. Twice in the past year I have experienced a “pop” in my ribs when performing a heavy set of squats. It usually takes up to 4 weeks for the pain to subside to the point I can wear a belt again. Should I consider a different belt or keeping it looser perhaps? Interested in your perspective. Thanks.

    I was just looking for a 3” belt for deadlifts because I can’t set my back properly with my 4” belt. Great timing and just picked this up! Looking forward to my first session with the Dominion belt.

    Is the 3" prefered to the 4" for Squats? I'm looking to get a good belt and see you guys give this a big thumbs up. I have a 4" 10mm buckle belt but its poor quality so i want a life long, quality belt.

    Paul Irving generally we see that people who are young, tall, and very competitive are the ones who benefit from having a 4” belt for squats. For the average lifter, the benefits of the 4” vs the 3” are very marginal and generally not worth the potential added discomfort of the 4”. Hope this helps.

    Be careful with the 4 inch belt ...I had a 4 inch SBD belt and I fractured by ribs while squatting because I had the belt too high ... 😱😱.. i use a 3 inch Dominion now

    knee sleeves are largely useless and knee wraps are bad for your knees, they will add weight to your max, that goes without question, but that comes at the cost of your knee health. knee wraps work by storing compressive energy around the knee which gives you a bounce out of the bottom. the issue is that you are compressing a joint that is moving, this heavily restricts its movement and this can cause your femurs and fibula to grind against the cartilage in your knees. you can find several online tutorials on how to wrap knee wraps tightly by elite lifters such as chris duffin and dave tate. nobody can make the choice to use them but you, however, if you do use them, for the sake of your knees i suggest you use them as little as possible, only putting them on for 2-3 weeks prior to a competition, and spending your entire off season without them.

    Just started to wear a belt for the first time on Monday, waking up on Tuesday I have slight bruising where the belt was and today it really felt tender wearing it again, is this normal? Also I find it’s not allowing me to bend over as much as I would usually in my squat, is this bad?

  • @BarbellLogic

    @BarbellLogic

    2 жыл бұрын

    So, it's probably not in the right spot. This can be normal. You might try a smaller belt (3"). It shouldn't be pinching your skin, hitting the bottom of your ribs, or hitting the top of your hip bones. So, to sum up, it's not super rare, but probably comes from a slight misplacement or it being too big. We just made another belt video that helps address this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o2p1tJJpoq-aeMY.html

    The biggest difference the belt makes for me is coming out of the hole on a squat. I can squat about 10% more in my 3" Best Belt than beltless. I get maybe 5% on my deadlift, maybe 5-10 lbs on bench and nothing on the press. It does feel a little like cheating when I'm basically getting assistance out of the hole from the tension of the belt. I use it for my heavy day on Monday, and go beltless for light and medium days.
