Take notes modern R&B artists. THIS is how you write a ballad and Usher shows his vocal abilities fit right in with it. Valerie Simpson is an all-time great R&B songwriter but he held his own even if I prefer Marvin Gaye. If his own material was always this good I might actually buy his albums lol.

You know, Valerie's mom was a preacher, and I too was raised in the church, and I can really hear that Pentecostal Hymnal church feeling of my youth in almost all of their songs...such a fantastic base: R&B!! SOLD AS A ROCK let's not forget that one too. lol

the lyrics were continued by Valerie, "'...all the joy under the sun wrapped up into one'"....., then in midstream of the You're All I Need to Get By, he took over and transitioned to Stand By Me, returning to You're All I Need to Get By at the end.....(happens sometimes...the trick is to remain cool, recover and keep it moving)..and he did....

Superman has found his kryptonite. Usher is a super talent but he was struggling on that song. That's just my opinion.
