I think the programming should be changed so if all switches are flipped on at the same time the unit stops trying to turn them off. Once one is manually turned off the unit goes back to work.

once you defeat all the useless machines from those weird videos, this is the final boss you must face

either that or a timer with two sides for a 2 player game where each switch you press turns a light one at the end of the timer whoever has the most lit lights wins

@@JTMakesIt Unfortunately, there are only two useless boxes I like, this and "with attitude." The latter has no analogue, and I like this because you can fight the speed of the single switch. The ones I see for sale cheat with multiple switches that can operate at the same time.

DC motor for moving left/right is from printer, optical incremental position encoder also from printer and arduino and DC motor driver board. . Motor for finger is cheap servo motor from ebay.

Hi, I don't have any tutorial, I have built it by using what I got at hand. I think that I used Arduino Nano as well. I might have the code somewhere too, but it is not very neatly put together. It just starts to flick all the switches, starting with the nearest switch to the current arm position. It always chooses the shortest path to the next switch.

You need an old inkjet printer(free), an arduino(couple of $), some basic knowledge of electronics(available on the internet) and some free time :)

It would be cool if you managed to have all the switches flipped at once it gave up and you won

Sorry I have no plans for this one. It was built without a single drawing. Even if I had plans for it, they would probably be no good for you, since it is made from recycled inkjet printer and every printer is differenty made and uses different motor and position sensors.

Pretty cool. But I really would like to find one of the original models that Spencer Gifts used to sell. Simple smooth black box with one switch on top. Flip the switch, and the box made strange noises, the lid -slowly- lifted, and a small green hand -slowly- emerged and -pulled- the switch off, then quickly retreated and the lid slammed shut. All these modern versions work too fast, and they all -push- the switch. More robotic, than spooky. Still, I like your variation.

Hey, thanks! I don't know where useless machine can be purchased. But when you build it yourself, you can program it to behave just as you like it. Although more complex movements take more time t program than simple "robotic" ones. I kept it simple in my version, so it is faster to reach all the switches.
