Going to Greece this summer but won't be taking my drone (mini3Pro). You have to submit a flight plan including a map of the flight area for EVERY flight and once approved you have to take proof of the approval to a police station before you fly, even for a sub 250g drone. Totally OTT and impractical so I'm very disappointed :(

Thanks Sean. That’s really useful. I registered in the Alpha Tango (French) website back in 2021 from Spain. It has an excellent English version. I fly a lot in Greece with a mixture of Air 2S and a Mini 3 pro. Never a problem, excellent images.

I found this video very helpful in that we live in the U.S. and my wife (who is a native of Portugal) and I frequently travel to Portugal to visit family and to see our favorite attractions. I hold an FAA Part 107 UAS Pilot certification in the U.S. and fly for my own media company. I'd also like to fly in Portugal to create tourist-type media to show friends/family and was curious as to how to go about where to find the rules; this video has certainly helped. If I fly in Portugal, I'll probably take my DJI Air 2S and DJI Avata, both of which weigh more than 250 grams. Thanks, again.

I registered in Cyprus and is probably one the best places to fly a drone. A lot of freedom.

@@alwaystravelling100if you search back Sean has another video with more detail. You use the site on this video. The trick is to do the free A1/A3 ticket through Luxembourg and then the operator ID equivalent in Ireland.

Just flown dji mini 2 in Poland used droneradar app very usefull to show where you can fly using 🚦 to show if you can fly in that location

That's exactly what I did. I did my EASA Flyer ID via Luxembourg, and as I mostly fly in Poland, I applied to the Polish CAA to convert my Luxembourg certificate to be primarily valid in Poland to get a Polish operator ID.

@@malcolmberesford3323 didn't get all the legal stuff done. I still brought it. Kids and I used the GoPro mostly for the simplicity. But I had to try it once and got the 1 min clip of the hotel and rise up to spin around and catch the amazing beach we were next to. It was a success to just learn it takes more planning and effort. And with small kids it's complicated. My wife was supportive and we will plan better for the next adventure. I'm playing with editing the one clip with GoPro and phone footage now. Enjoy

I flew in Santorini last year with a mini3pro, lovely experience, though in Fira Port, a captain of a tourist ship shouted over claiming I had no authority to fly (wrong, I'd cleared all flight paths with the equiv to CAA, and nothing on local app maps, airports showed up ok in same). Landed anyways just to keep the peace. Problem in other areas was it DJI refused to take off as it would have exceeded the 120m limit, even though that was the ground level at that place (it's a VERY high island) and i wasn't skilled enough to find a ay to disable that setting, (if there is one!) good luck all

I'm traveling to Portugal from the US. I plan to bring the Mini 3 Pro and maybe an FPV drone. How long does it take to process the applications for the proper registration and training certificate?

Your videos are the clearest. We are going to Sicily, I’ve had to pay some euros to follow Italian operator registration. I’ll head over and take the EASA test now. So cert, op I’d, then copy of driving licences think I am compliant. I have noticed lots of restricted space above some towns that appear to be not safety related which is interesting.

@@mikebrunophoto I didn’t find it to bad. It was last year, they do have equivalent of NOTAMs on many towns. Just make sure you use there app so you know where can and can’t fly. It’s called: D-flight

Thanks for that Sir, living in the EU and having got both my A2C of C and equivant EASA certifcates, I registered myself in The Netherlands. I am able to speak fluent Dutch, German, and Hungarian with a smattering of Spanish too. So I have set myself up to fly anywhere in Europe also having a written declaration in 3 languages for any ‘authority’ who may be interested in what and why I am flying in their neck of the woods. I utilise a DJI Mavic Air 2 as well as a DJI mini 2 as well. Once again thanks for the info it’s always good to get as much info and experienceas you can in our hobby! 👍🦉😎🇪🇺

New subscriber, love your channel. I'm planning on taking my Mini 3 Pro to Europe from the US starting in Italy. It's a 2023 model, so does that make it a legacy drone and negates the advantages of being sub 250 grams? Also not able to register online with Italy. Going onto Austria for a few days. Appreciate any advice.

Thanks! I was able to register to fly in Norway. I just use sub 250g drones nowadays the quality is better than my original mavic pro was anyway. I would like the more telephoto lens option but a heavier drone just isn't worth it with so much more freedom with a smaller drone. I can't wait until we get a 70mm + equivalent on a mini sized drone and a pocket style gimbal device too.

In the video you suggested using Luxemburg as the place fir registration. The link to training on their website has been shut down due to a hack of the system. What other country do you suggest for the online training and registration that is provided in English for those of us who are nor multi-lingual. As a Mini 3 pro owner I understand I need to be registered operator.

Can take test in Luxembourg (English) and then register drone for Spain, that's where I want to go. I'm based in UK have registration there.

Great video, explains it well. I thought it was in the 'too hard to do basket'. Seems if I register in Ireland, as going there on my way to Spain... and take the UK drone pilot course... I should be OK flying in remote villages throughout Spain where there are no flying restrictions that I can see on an app on my phone? Is that right? Planning on getting a DJI mini 4 pro as it has built-in ' won't crash' apparently which is a good idea I think as I have never flown anything before apart from Ryan Air! I will be visiting many remote villages, making a KZread series on " Can I work remotely in X" throughout remote Spain, so having drone footage of these villages will be key for the B role etc. I don't need to worry about Madrid, Barcelona and any big cities as not reviewing any town with more than 20,000 inhabitants. If that sounds like a plan be great to know if you agree or not before I invest in a drone and have it taken off me on day one :)

EASA also state "Your registration number issued by the NAA must be displayed with a sticker on all of your drones and then upload it into the ‘Remote Identification System’ of your drone.". so the online examination for the A1A3 from Luxembourg is good enough to not have to apply as a UAS operator in another country? I tried to register in Luxembourg and it says you have to be a resident or have a business there. Hello, Thank you for this information. I am a US citizen and will be traveling throughout Spain for most of September. I went through the process of getting registered as a drone operator and received a UAS operator registration #. I use a DJI mini 3 pro that is less than 250g. It seems that I can fly under the open A1 category. As I look at the maps it seems as though there are many areas that say the flight of RPAS is prohibited. I am unfamiliar with this terminology. It seems that I will be required to purchase insurance, which I will do, but I don't know if I will have an opportunity to familiarize the A1-A3 requirements to the point of taking an exam. am I able to do things such as put my Mini 3 pro up in Barcelona to take a photo of La Sagrada Famiglia inside of a zone that says flight of RPAS is prohibited? Thanks again!

to start with the last question: I use a mavic air and since a few months also a mini 3. Since flying in Germany, where I live, is not always easy (people publish the content of their diapers on social media but tend to cry "privacy" as soon as they see a camera or drone!), I mostly fly in Sweden where people seem to be more relaxed. I prefer to fly early in the morning or later in the evening, since you have "softer" light. If there are people around the area I want to take of from, I mostly approach them, tell them that I intend to fly, checked the legality of the location and, if the are nterested, show them the maps. I also have cards with contact details and offer them a copy of the footage if they send me an email. Since flying my drone(s) now for six years, I only once had someone "complaining", but that was more about the sound that would "disturb the filmcrew in the castle..." I took his complain, got the drone back in and returned the next morning (with much better weather) and got the shots I wanted. If people approach me while flying, I tell them to wait untill I have safely landed the drone and so I have time and attention for them. Taking this five or ten minutes to explain the hobby, show some footage and maybe even show some direct flights takes away the concerns with most people, specially when they realize that from 120 meters above ground, you hardly recognize who is who on the ground (except me, caus I wear a blue high-visible cover while operating).

Hi there - I am looking to take my drone to Sweden this summer and would love to get some help to ensure I get all the pre planning right :) I'm based in the UK, and have my A2CofC and GVC certificate which I took here in the UK earlier this year. I'm planning on getting a DJI Mini 3 in Sweden (price difference), and fly it to film my friend's boat on the coast (in permitted areas ofc). The drone will be insured. I have my Flyer ID, and my Operator ID (and this will be stickered to the drone too), both obtained in the UK. I'm Danish so I have a Danish passport, so I am wondering this - do I need to do any additional registering under EASA to fly in Sweden / Norway / Denmark ? And am I bound to register with Denmark, even though I plan to fly in Sweden first? Or shall I instead register in Sweden? Or do I not need to do any additional registering? @@wildandabout2156 Good Evening (morning, afternoon, what ever is approriat) Since the rules in europe changed, it has become easier. I suppose that you are register as operator and the operator ID is on the drone. Like in the UK, there are flightrestrictions in areas around airports, prisons, nuclear plants etc, as well as natur reservats. RIght now, I am not in my office, but I will post here some lnks that are important. First, to the general dronemaps, showing the permanent restrictions put in place by the aircontroling authorities (LFV), then a link to the LFV where you can find NOTAM messages, which are not shown on the general maps. And finally two links to the lantmäteriet. In the first link you can see the maps of Sweden, zoom in and check if there is any naturreservat in the area you want to fly. IF so, you cannot fly there. The second one os important if you intend to publish your footage. You do not need permission to get the footage, but BEFORE you release it, you have to present the unedited version of the footage to get the permission to publish. The proces is simple, takes only a few days and is free of charge. In the past five years, I have sent them almost 1TB on footage and never had any restrictions for publication. Don't think thes don't find out that you publish without permission, I know ofat least two cases where people got a friendliy letter to let them know, that they violated the law with the included request, to submit the footage for release.

I, go to Tenerife about 3- 4 times per year. I’d love to take my Mini 3 Pro with me, but,, I downloaded the Enaire app ( Spanish equivalent of Altitude Angel) Seems vast swathes of the island are no fly areas. Also their rules are a lot more strict than they are here in the U.K. No flying over businesses, people etc. It seems anything that’s either fixed to the ground, or free to move, you can’t fly over them. So for now, I’m not bothering.

Just for interest, I was previously registered in Ireland, but they wanted something like 30-euro for a year's re-registration this year. So instead I registered in France, an d it was dead easy, and free.

Going to Greece next week, and have been trying for days to find a form I can fill in to register as an operator. Found forms but not you can actually fill in, which is necessary if I what to email it to the Greek authorities. Information on KZread is confusing. I’ve got a Mini 3 pro, and some people say you need insurance, others say you don’t, it’s got to the point where it’s not worth the stress. I’ll leave the drone at home and try and sort it out over winter before next years trip.

Nice vid. I had a question about A2 certification and I should mention I am USA based and I plan to travel in Europe in some weeks from now. I have the Mavic 3 pro which is unfortunately, a C2 class drone. I already have my A1/A3 certification via the Luxembourgian LZ site and I can follow up with the A2 theory there as well. However, to pass the A2 exam, it seems to me that an in-person exam is needed? Is that true or is there an online version of this around?

Hi Sean, I have an interesting question. I'm planning a trip to Switzerland in the summer so have both a Swiss issue EU Op ID and Flyer ID, no problem. I am just scanning Drone Assist for FRZs, some require authorisation to fly in and have a phone number listed so no problem there, but some also state "This peice of airspace is in effect above xxxft AGL" or "This peice of airspace is in effect above surface". So for those with an AGL specified, is it OK to fly below xxxft without authorisation and those "above surface" is it OK to fly below surface, within a gorge for example? Sorry for the long question, but any thoughts would be great.

Hi Sean thanks for that. I am easa registered in Ireland but I intend to take the drone to Norway. I have seen videos which say the require sub 250g drones such as the mini 3 pro to have public liability insurance with significant fines for not having this of up to 1200euro. Apparently the insurance costs about 150 euro. Do you know if this is the case there or anywhere else?

As suggested, I looked at registering in Luxembourg. Although reg seems free, it seems necessary to provide a current 3rd party insurance policy number in the application, which I don't have and would only get just before confirming if / when I will actually be flying there. So... I'm stuck proceeding with reg in Luxembourg. Pity.

Hi Sean, just a quick question if I may as I can't seem to find a definitive answer. The rules state that you should register in the country that you intend to fly first. However, what if plans change? I am going to Northern Ireland this weekend (so can use my CAA details) but might pop over the border to Ireland. If I register there, what happens if I don't cross the border and end up flying in say France next year as my first place?

Hey Steve! The way the actual legislation is worded helps us. It states you should register in the first country you 'intend' to fly in but there is no insistence. This helps in a number of circumstances including your own. Hope this helps.

Nice video! So to be safe, with a mini 2 (under 250g) you may fly after registering, respecting the map restrictions. It s not clear to me if i may fly in a city as long as i keep a safe distance from uninvolved parties (people, cars etc.) or do i need approval from the tower?

We are taking a cruise via Celebrity which will take us from Barcelona, France, Italy and back to Barcelona. I found it difficult to register me and my drone in Spain due to some technical and language issues so I registered me and my drone(Dji Mini 4 Pro) in France( alpha Tango). Hello i am traveling to italy from Uae and i was trying to register as operator but its asking for C.F/CIF/T.I.N but i dont have what should i fill in this?

I went to Fuerteventura last year and I took the licence on the Spanish website despite being Italian as I found it very easy and quick to navigate through I think in some countries you need an online identify check which can be am headache unless you’re a resident

Great video but when I try to register for an operator license in Luxenberg or Denmark, they all require an ID from that country to start the process. How did you as a UK citizen get around this? I am a US citizen.

In Portugal the register process is next to impossible unless you are a resident. They want you to do it legally but make it next to impossible to do so!!

Just tried to go to the Luxembourg site to register and its a nightmare...... am i missing something? there is no link to get to the correct form? the only link i can find says you need an ID verification to join their forms from another country and it doesnt list England. Hi! You only need to register once in any of the EASA member states. It is advisable to check on local stipulations and requirements as well. There is a link to do that in the description of this video.

@Geeksvana Hi, thanks for your video. I'm wondering if I can register as an Drone Operator in one EASA Member Country and get the Flyer ID (Pilot Certificate A1/A3) in another EASA Member Country? Also, once I obtain the Pilot Certificate A1/A3 in, let's say Luxemburg, do I have to stick with Luxemburg if later on I want to obtain the A2 Certificate? Thanks!

Great questions! They are also topics I came across myself. So... 1. Yes, you can register in on EASA and take the A1/A3 in another. (Personally, I registered in Ireland and took the Luxembourg test. 2. You can take the A2 course and pass it with a company in any member state, unrestricted by where you are registered or took the A1/A3 test with. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Yes, thankfully, strict laws to prevent that in the UK and EU... for now, at least.

Can this appy for people coming from the United States ? I've tried to register with Belgium and Luxemburg but both sites requires me to download an app, which i can't because it doesn't show up on my App Store due to my region. Thanks for the very clear information Sean. Can anyone answer the question regarding insurance regulations? If we're operating a sub 250 drone is insurance required in the EU?...or is some of the information misleading and just trying to sell you a policy where none is needed. Many thanks!

Overall you are not required under EASA regs. However, some countries insist on at least third-party coverage and others 'expect' it. My recommendation is to get some third party insurance to cover yourself. I would recommend something like FPVUK. You get a lot of member benefits and a great insurance policy which is valid in the EU for around £20 for the year. Hope this helps.

Hey! Many people flying in Spain register in Ireland as it is more simple and in English. The registration still counts for Spain etc.

Perhaps just me, but can't see any link in the description?

Hi, I've ordered my drone & should be here shortly. However, I'm trying to register in Norway, to no avail as my Country (Gibraltar) is not listed on their scroll down list, I've tried as well Spain & Luxembourg & again to no avail as it doesn't lead to anywhere except to loads of explanations, but not to the appropriate application form. Does anyone know how the Hover X1 Air "selfie" drone is covered by the regulations? It is 125 grams and will usually be used in "automatic" modes where "piloting" seems irrelevant.

Initially tried on Spanish EASA, could not get it to work, taking advice from Darren of DM Productions, managed to get registered with the Ireland EASA, although there was a 30€ charge As a hobbyist should I get insurance. Going to Majorca next week with Mini3 pro

And I already passed A1 and A3 certificate from Luxembourg. Is this enough for me to try my drone in those countries. As I found Portugal and Spanish website more complex to register as I'm from UK. @bryanstoneman842 thank you for your quick response as I was worried if I wouldn't be able to use my drone on holiday for recreation use. I would suggest reading the chapter if you are at the beginner stage. Questions were not easy or hard. But it' s very frustrating to review your answer if you fail. But the good thing is you can take unlimited tries to make sure you pass. It took me like 5 hours to pass as I skipped through manual reading and went for exams as you don't know which question you got wrong and you don't know the right answer. Make sure you have half a day to complete the test as it can be time consuming if you are getting the question not correct.

Hi Sean . Just wondering if you could answer a question for me re flying in the EU ? . I have registered both my aircraft and passed their online examination but as a hobbyist flyer do I have to register as a UAS operator as well ? I am travelling to France with my aircraft for the first time. Any help would be much appreciated.

With both the drone registration number on your drone and the A1/A3 certificate passed, you are good to go. Nothing further needed for the basic levels.

Remote ID is not currently in use in France. The way the registration works is the aircraft ID and the A1/A3 cert is the registration. So you are covered.

Hey Tom! Unfortunately, the UK A2 CofC is not valid in the EU/EASA area. You will need to retake the certificate with a training company in the EASA area.

@@Geeksvana 🙄 do you think playing dumb in case of being approached by police and saying “I thought UK A2 CofC is valid here as it is basically the same thing “ could work ? To be honest I been in Greek island Zakynthos/Zante and I flew my drone quite a lot without registration, courses etc as I wasn’t aware of all this bs, no problems at all. Now the more legal I want to be before my next holiday the more stressful this becomes, doing same qualifications here and abroad is just ridiculous. Maybe is better still not even register anything once my new drone arrives…

I CANNOT find reliable information regarding whether I need liability insurance for recreational use in Italy. I'm going there next week and I don't know if I need insurance or not, and if so I have NOT been able to find insurance at all. I live in Taiwan and here they only offer that for businesses and commercial use in Taiwan, no such other insurance policy exists....

Apologies, I have only just seen this from the new comment popping up. You do not require insurance in Italy as a recreational flyer... HOWEVER, as a tourist you will find that most police would 'expect' it. A simple way to get covered would be to join FPVUK for £20 foe the year, you get millions of coverage and it works across Europe. Hope this helps.
