Dear David, Old customer and fan of your material from even before Truefire here. I also lived in Austin and got a PhD in Ethnomusicology from UT (where I also taught what used to be Blues according to Clifford Antone). We would love to see you move away from blues and jazz blues to classic jazz songs, as you did with those couple of early books. You are about the best teacher-player I have ever encountered, and you could really help folks understand how to approach jazz without a degree from Berklee. Rock on, and jazz on!

A shout out to David for an excellent workshop on chord substitutions. The workshop is a deeper, more comprehensive discussion of this topic that includes well organized and practical workbook (34 pages!) for woodshedding on your own.

I assume there are “doable” chord substitutions for Open G and D? I wonder what they are, and whether the shapes are as simple as they appear to be in standard tuning? Thank you for the concepts, they help, but I’m focused on open tunings so don’t feel (at my beginner level) that I can utilize then at this point in what I assume is a very long fingerpicking/slide journey. Cheers from Ottawa, Mike.
