It is common for laptops to have problems with USB ports due to the way Windows 10 manages power. Essentially, the USB ports can become disabled automatically due to power-saving features that aren't functioning correctly.
Did your computer's mouse or keyboard suddenly stop working? Are all or just one of your USB ports not responding?

Absolutely smashing and straight to the point. The option of disabling Power and Sleep settings was the one I needed. Thank you so much for your great video!
This has to be the single most helpful video on the internet ever. The second fix was mine but all of these were so straight to the point yet thoroughly explained in what each method was doing and why it could work. I cannot thank you enough for this video. All four of my usb ports weren't working and you basically just saved my entire laptop. Thank you!
Hooray. Your fix option no 4 worked with my laptop and now recognises external USB storage. You are a champ!
Solution #2 was the one that helped reboot my USB ports. Thank you so much for making this video! ☺️
So grateful to you . I'm an author working to a deadline, and two chapters away from the end of a novel. This morning I found the ports on my laptop weren't responding. The very first tip in this vid solved the problem (an update had failed). I couldn't be less techically adept, so you've saved me a trip to find someone to fix it - and, as I'm abroad at the moment, that would have been a nightmare. So, thanks!
4 worked for me. Very concise and clear. Subbed. Thanks you.
Option 4 worked perfectly for me.....Great video with every step explained really well.
So helpful! Simple and clean. THANK YOU!
My gaming mouse just stopped working and this video probably just saved me a lot of money. Unchecking the boxes solved my issue. Thank you for helping us out!
Liked your video post, Sir. Helped me a lot. I did the first two fixes (plugged LAN cable into an alternate device, and unchecked power mgmt for usb roots 2x). Together they worked for my case (even though humorously I lost track of which of those two fixes if applied in isolation would have been the winning solution, out of my own rushing to fix). With much appreciation. May you and your kin gain glory and receive richly.
Option #2 worked for me! Great video. Straight to the point. Thanks so much
Excellent tutorial! Great teacher. One of the few clear cut kind tutorials. Congratulations
I got these USB power surges every now and then so this was a life saver. Thank you.

Awesome!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH !! My USB ports on the back of my all in one weren't working for a while but I still have 2 on the side. But then one of those stopped working this morning and it was extremely frustrating. Windows was already up to date so I changed the USB power settings, disabled USB selective suspend, as well as enable fast start up since my computer had it toggled off. I reset my computer and put my USB back into the side port and it worked! I tried the USB ports on the back as well, one recognized it but another still didn't, which may have been the port that was messed up a couple years ago when it first stopped working. I was going to uninstall and reinstall drivers if your other fixes didn't work but I don't need to, for now at least! Saving this video to my favorite and subbing your channel. Simple, easy to follow instructions that actually helped and saved me a trip to the local computer store. Cheers man!
Thanks! You made it easier for me than I expected!
Thank you so much!! Disabling USB selective suspend worked. I was about to buy a USB converter before stumbling upon this video. Great and clear explanation with no extra chattering. Thanks again!!
Well explained and easy to follow. The power settings was what did it for me.
It slightly worked a little for me, Thank you so much!
Thanks for the great information. It all helped me understand the problem and fix it. :)
Thank you! this video must have taken many hours for you to figure out how to fix the USB ports! your awesome my dude, keep up the good work!
I genuinely thought that all three ports on my laptop were fried. They started working again after fix number 3. Thank you!
#5 did the trick Very helpful thank you clear, concise
Outstanding, well put together video. Uninstalling the USB ports and reinstalling (Number 4 option) worked like a charm. Thanks!!
I had a chepish USB-C multihub on my c940 that was bulletproof for well over a year, then the comms went 'phooooff' in an electrical storm, stripped it and found one of the surface mounted caps has gone to eHeaven. First replacement was a similar no name brand, with HDMI and Ethernet etc, this has been nothing but headaches, while the HDMI remained up the ethernet would continually drop with an error 43 every 3-5 minutes. Following your suggestion to turn off ALL power control on all drivers for all the USB related devices eventually fixed it. It has now been stable for many hours - kudos to you sir!
Thanks for the video. I’ve had a friend who’s laptop USB ports would randomly stop working. The usb power settings were messed up.
This was explained so easy and fixed perfectly. thank you so much.

Thank you. This was just what I needed. Clear and concise. Easy to follow.
I tried everything on my own to troubleshoot the USB port issue I was having. I recently added a multi-port adapter so I could use 4 USB devices on a single port on my PC. Worked fine with printer, Jabra headset, and miscellaneous USB charging devices. Then it died on me after a windows update ran. After going through your first 3 options, I rebooted and it's working again! Thanks for the expert advice. Clear and to the point.
Thank you so much! Easy to understand instructions got me going again!
THANK YOU! it worked for me.
Thank you! Your clear simple instructions helped. Step three or maybe 4 did not show the same sub screen on my surface note pro as on you video but step five of uninstalling and reinstalling did the trick. Again thank you for your simply clear easy to follow directions

Great, problem solved. I was having trouble with USB hard drive not being visible on startup. If I went to Device Manager and uninstalled the Root Hub devices, the drive would appear on a restart. However, after shut down and starting up again it disappeared! Had to go to your final option of disabling the Fast Start up but that worked! So relieved - thank you.
