Removable batteries aren't going to come back, because of the way batteries are tariffed. Phone manufacturers went non-removable because a non-removable battery is considered an essential component of the phone therefore are not tariffed separately while removable batteries are. So the profit margin on a phone with a non-removable battery is just slightly better and more stable than it's non-removable counterpart.

Not to mention that Bluetooth audio quality is a mine field of it's own. Although many devices support higher definition standards like AAC, AptX, or AptX HD most manufacturers have their own interpretation of these so you can't use (in most cases) an iphone AAC or AptX with a non-Apple licensed device, and many android phone makers have similarly unique interpretations of the so-called "standards", so what most often happens is that the Bluetooth connection defaults back to the old SBC standard from BT1.1 with it's frankly abysmal audio quality (similar to 128kbs MP3 so some people will still call that great though).

I love and need my headphone jack. I hate bluetooth, it propably sucks a lot of power out of your phone and you need to connect it. With the headphone jack, I just plug it in. Done. I'm also not a fan of dongles. There is just nothing that beats the simplicity of the good old 3.5 mm headphone jack. If I want to play my phone's audio on my radio's big speakers, I just use the headphone jack. It is so widely accepted.

Because you're living in the past, bt is way more convenient and just better and no it does not suck alot of the power out of your phone, it sucks less because the phone has no longer to power up the headphone speakers, the separate battery does that and bt doesn't take as much power so in terms of your phone battery you're actually on better. There is nothing as annoying as the headphone wires that get in the way, get stuck in the stuff even if you put it under the shirt and they break every 3 to 6 months. Bt module for your bigger speakers is like $10... any speakers can be easily bt enabled by just plugging them in the bt module and then connecting with the phone. If you're a bit of diy guy you can make that even more seamless without buying enabled bt speakers. Open up the speakers or amp and install that little bt circuitry inside the device itself as it will probably fit (the board is small and amps have plenty of space, speaker cabinets even more) connect it to the power (might need to be step down with a voltage regulator) and of course hook it into the audio in wires (the backside of the 3.5mm jack).

@@chucklesdeclown8819 But I mentioned that... I can't believe I have to explain this in detail. Yes everyone knows that trick and no that doesn't solve the problem because even with routing the cable under the shirt, I have still managed to get the stupid wire to catch into shit, of course when that happened it resulted in forceful removal of the earbuds from my ears, or it even pulls out the pda which then drops on the floor(yes the pda because wired earbuds are so ancient they belong into 2003-2010 pocket pc era) Why it happens? Because the part of the wire which comes out the shirt and then into the pocket where it plugs into a pda is fully exposed. If you make it tight it's uncomfortable, if you don't then then the exposed wire just makes a nice little arc ready to catch into shit that you pass. Also the whole process of setting it all up was frustrating and took some time, to do, because you have to fish the cable through, and clip it so it doesn't pull down and if you later decide you want to use the pda while listening to the music, you have to unplug it pull the wire out and plug it in... such pain in the ass. It wan't even worth the trouble, I have opted to just use the speaker or not listen to the music at all so many times, because it was just too much effort. Meanwhile you just turn on the bluetooth earbuds, they work instantly (+1) you don't have to worry about any wires getting stuck into shit or breaking (+2) and you can just put the phone wherever you want in the room and you still hear the music (+3) Imagine a life where you aren't tethered to your device... Oh wait we already have that

As technology gets more better and better, less actual drives/jacks/wires/whatever are needed. Remember CD drives? That used to be all the rage back in 1990s to early 2000s. Then the internet started to evolve. We were able to download things onto our computer at faster and faster speeds. Valve saw this as a way to innovate, and due to other underlying reasons, to create stronger DRM, and provide updates faster, Steam, the first successful digital distribution platform was released, and the rest is history. UPlay, Origin, battle.net, etc. And less people started to use CD. Granted some people still use them, to transfer legacy software, but it's mostly gone for normal consumers. What I'm trying to say is that Apple has the same idea Valve did. They saw the future and were willing to take risks, as they're known for. Sure some people complained, but normal consumers didn't care and some were happy that the headphone jack was being removed for something better. And it paid off. Sales research after Q1 2017 placed the iP7 as the best-selling smartphone in the world. TL:DR - Headphone jack are soon to meet the fate of CDs, long gone because of wireless advancements in technology, for better or for worse.

What happened to "If it's not broken, don't fix it"? No phone owner has ever said they don't want a headphone jack, so the fact that these companies are taking them away is a poor decision. Not only are there comparability issues, there is also the risk of loosening (Damaging) the charge port from more use from the charger and now a USB-C adapter for headphones. Not impressed.

I need to sacrifice charging for either a crappy dongle that clicks when I move or crappy iPhone headphones without good low end, or 2. I need to use a minimum $60 pair of crummy Bluetooth headphones with a latency in the SECONDS, making my life harder when I want to charge my phone while wanting to mess around on Garage Band. Who ever decided that it would be more convenient to have to charge both your headphones and phone while also suffering latency and the probability of content consumption dead time should be shot from a cannon into the sun with a wadding made from an enlarged 3.5mm audio jack.

So if you're playing an audio file that has already been degraded by being encoded to some lossy format, it is getting encoded yet again to another lossy. So that is just shit on top of shit. You can avoid this by encoding to a lossless format, but then you'll sacrificing space to fix and issue that never should be an issue to begin with.

Just put 3.5mm jack's back on everything. Theres no genuine reason why they should be omitted from phones. If a phone like the Vivo nex s can fit one in I'm pretty sure most other phones can. If they start removing them from laptops too I'll be beyond pissed as that's just going too far.

Gotta say, I never saw the upside to getting rid of the audiojack. Just.... why? It's used all the time - doesn't take up a lot of space, is cheap and is compatible with anything. Now, for certain devices you have to carry an extra dongle around everythere you go? Wow.... progress? Did anyone actually ask for this or do companies just follow Apple trends even when they are hugely unpopular? I can't really forsee myself ever buying a phone or tablet without a minijack. Not unless the port goes completwly extinct for some reason. Can anyone actually provide a solid practical reason for this trend? Id be genuinely interrested to know.

This dongle crap is ridiculous man, I have hope though! If we ban together as a collective we can change the tide. WE'RE the consumer and WE'RE buying their products so they need to impress US. The only reason why they get away with it is because people are continuously upgrading their phones. I admit I fell for the brainwashing thinking I wouldn't miss the headphone jack with the Pixel 2 but I do! Some people like to charge their phones and listen to music as well...I won't be upgrading to any Google device until they bring it back, if they don't I'll just go to a competitor that DOES. We need the headphone jack... The DACs in phones were just fine, and I'm pretty sure those DACs are better than the ones you'll get in some cheap digital USB-C audio adapter. I don't plan on getting any phone without a heaphone jack. I've got a Moto G4 Plus at the moment, and whenever I upgrade, I plan on getting whatever OnePlus is out at the moment. Agreed to an extent, Phone audio was hideous and was an absolute trash solution next to actually having a DAP with a high quality AMP/DAC, I mean we pay around a grand for smartphones but when I show people an Astell&Kerns they loose their mind over the prices. Apple Products are simply overpriced and iTunes was always the laughing stock of quality music, so much so even the engineer that designed it came out and said how embarrassed he was and how it set back the industry a decade at minimum compared to other players at the time on the market. The only reason people use phones as a music player is out of conv. not because of quality also the SNR and background noise/static is disgraceful on phones. I have only ever seen and heard a few phones that had decent audio, Razer phone, Moto X pure are 2 of them, and most enthusiasts use an AMP/DAC with a phone just to try and make it better with a set of Grado/Sennheiser/or other high end audio cans. The only reason Beats became famous was because the more expensive versions had a DAC/AMP built into the headphones in order to make the Itune audio sound more fuller, the drawback was they were profiled for Bass heavy modern music which drowns out mids excessively.

The thing is: Having an external USB DAC over USB-C will work on all phones. They're standard USB Audio Devices which is why they work on laptops too. Putting a jack on the phone doesn't mean you can't use an external DAC. The P20 Pro does it just fine, as does the Sony (they do the auto switch for you.)

@@FakeGordonMahUng Take a note those digital dongles are *filters* with audio signal converter ICs for the coil present in headphones. And here comes a aspect that makes this matter more shitty. They do filter USB power & data stream interference. The audio signal is bad than 3.5 mm output. Find a phone that have both 3.5mm jack & usb audio, chop the wire of a headphone, connect it to a digital multimeter that can log data, now play White Noise, Pink noise, logarithmic Sine & Arithmetic Sine
