The U.S. Air Force's Pararescuemen also known as PJs, Pararescue Jumpers, CSAR, and Air Commandos are elite soldiers who are tasked with recovery and medical treatment of personnel in humanitarian and combat environments.
Pararescue Jumpers are also used to support NASA missions and have been used to recover astronauts after water landings. As well as recovering downed pilots deep behind enemy lines.

They're trained to be good at basically everything in order to be able to save as many lives as they can, and the thanks they want is to be able for them to thank the men and women they saved to come back home alive. It gives me chills knowing that this is the closest we have to modern day warrior monks, and the reward they want is to be able to see the fruits of their labor in saving lives to be a success, even at their cost of their own lives, to see men and women they rescued be able to see their family again. The altruism of the job... no wonder no one dares talk shit about PJs, because they're legitimate battlefield angels.

This is completely false. Their "combat diving" is not the same diving that SEALs do and the training is different, these guys are Special Operation Rescuers/Paramedics. They don't learn maritime combat skills like SEALs, they don't learn Unconventional Warfare skills like Green Berets (aka Special Forces, which you incorrectly used to refer to all Special Operations Forces), and they don't learn raiding and direct action skills to the extent that Rangers, and all other SOF for that matter, do.

To shoot and blow things up is piece of cake comparatively to fixing another human being, often in critical condition and under hostile environments . I have nothing but greatest respect to all medics, whether civilian or military. Coincidentally just watched a movie last week “The last full measure” about a PJ during the Vietnam War who ultimately gave up his life to administer aid to the surrounded soldiers of the 1st Inf Div as their own medic was wounded and medivac’ed out. Will say that this is the kind of thing everyone should strive for. Not necessarily the high stakes or the intense training, but the mindset of selfless sacrifice and willingness to keep going despite the risk of failure. I hope to do something that has a chance to hold a candle to what the PJs do on a regular.

Wanting to be a CRO was the reason why I first stepped into a US military recruiter’s office. Due to the specific (and unconventional) college I graduated from, my officer packet required a special waiver. However, the AF recruiter refused see it through - the Marines took me in. You are worn ragged in superman. School. The log will be a memory you always carry. The short pt shorts. Those 0500 ball shots. And even when you get done. There's dive school. Jump school..medical training, sere school. And I'm here today to tell you, if you ask any PJ how many lives have you saved? They won't know. But we remember the ones we lost. We fight. We go into battle with death itself. And it gets personal. Even decades later. The mindset you learn, will follow you long after your body gets soft. You will never be able to be the people that run from a emergency. You won't think about your age or shape. You run AT the emergency. Earning that maroon beret with flash...the only thing I've ever done better, was be a father.

I had wanted to be a PJ my whole life since I first learned of them. I unfortunately developed health issues that made this dream impossible. I am now going to school to become a flight nurse and recently shadowed a flight nurse. When I graduate I will have the Parajumper motto on my cap “These things we do that others may live”. God Bless the men that have died to save others.

I'm amaze that they can be attached to different elite units and you can say that PJ's is one of best. All I can say is huge respect to those men in uniform especially to those elite unit.

My father, who was a Green Beret in Vietnam, once said, if he could go back and do it again, he would be a PJ. Crazy.
