For decades I had been wondering what being on a cargo ship would be like. Thank you.
As with truckers, thank you for all that you and the crew have done! You guys make the world work.

They do make the current world work but that’s not necessarily a good thing. Without such widespread global shipping I think people would ironically be more food secure and have stronger local economies. Not to mention there would be a lot less sweatshops and horrible working conditions for people working to produce goods for the developed nations. Not to mention more jobs in those nations.

From 1973 till 1993 twenty long years crossed Pacific to and from Japan and West coast US/Canada and mostly in winter time, confronted severe storms all the time, life was terrible on board log ships, always heart on the lip situation. That was life we enjoyed too at the age of 77 years i reminicsent

Must have been miserable been around you, it doesn't seem that you enjoyed it, rather just endured it somehow. :-(. I loved my time at sea as 3rd and 2nd officer of the deck. Beautiful desolation of the open ocean, adventure of the storms, visiting foreign and faraway places...Some love this life, like me, lots of are unfortunately miserable.

It must be like we latvieši say for driving. When a walker finally gets a car of his own of the joy of driving nothing is left. A tourist would be very excited by everything on a ship, sailors dont care, its normal to them.

When I was a kid in the 1960's we use to watch these ships from Japan come to the ports in Kalama via the Columbia River. My dad was stationed in Japan during WWII, so it was interesting for him. It is fun to see how long these ships had to sail to get there and home. Thank you!

Good to hear that. Thanks for watching!
The way how the tugboat and carrier synced autopilot together was amazing!
This brings back some memories. Sailing through the straights of Juan de Fuca for hours and hours where it's as still as a sheet of glass and then greeted by monster waves the minute you hit the Pacific. Nothing better than spending days (or weeks) at sea and finally reaching land. That feeling you get when you finally set foot on soil again - so nice. And after weeks of heavy seas, the sea legs kick in so you end up walking goofy during the port visit.

I don't think it's dangerous these days. Only one ship sank in the pacific recently and that's because it was loaded really top heavy (a cattle ship).
I painted that deck on a trip over the Atlantic, and I used a 2-inch brush, in all weather.
Great video!!! Congratulations from Brazil. It's really when we receive something at home, never thinking in the hard work to this. My completely respect workers!!! 💪💪🏼💪🏽💪🏿👏👏👏👏

Great vid, I was once interested in working on a cargo ship for a voyage or two as a bit of a part timer, for the experience and to travel around a bit, but it seemed like that kind of opportunity might be quite hard to come by as they seemed to want full time, career people only?
Beautiful video, thanks for sharing! I enjoyed watching your journey.
