USA Football Heads Up Tackling Presented by 6 Point Athletics

Спорт

USA Football’s Heads Up Tackling® is a step-by-step protocol to teach the core principles of the skill and sets a new standard in player safety. The program utilizes five fundamentals through a series of drills to reinforce proper tackling mechanics and teach players how to properly tackle with a focus on reducing helmet contact.
The fundamentals are:
1. Breakdown Position
2. Buzzing the Feet
3. Hit Position
4. The Shoot
5. The Rip

Youth tackling drills being taught by one of the greatest linebackers in NFL history, Mr. Mike Singletary (#50 Chicago Bears).

Mike didn’t worry about all these cool buzz words. He was an exceptional athlete who was an absolute savage. He wouldn’t be allowed to play in today’s NFL.

This is the form and fit, chest on the rise. At the end, USA Football adds the "slide head to side" almost for PR reasons. Not sure I like guys turning/sliding their heads but I like this "hit up" tackle. What I don't agree with is rugby style tackling that has the tackler coming in flat backed, exposing his spinal column in a dangerous way. If his angle is wrong or if ball carrier changes direction, he's in trouble.

This tackling technique is good for inside linebackers . It's no good for corners and safeties . Corners and safeties have been adopted to hitting much lower .

Yes but you have to teach it both ways cause all athletes come in different sizes.

I like these techniques for athletes with similar size and strength. But at the youth level player size is very mismatched. There must be a more effective way for a small athlete to tackle a stronger larger player.

@@davidaulds7031 he's teaching the correct way of tackling that is still taught at USA football classes which are also endorsed by the NFL. Respectfully he isn't teaching "tackling" in the form of which he played. Reaching your head across the body of the offensive player as the defender is how he's played, this isn't what is being taught. As that method is no longer taught.
