10:40 In this case they're singing their club song. In Europe we don't sing the National anthem at club matches. Every club have their own song or anthem that usually is played when the players enter for the lineup. That's when most of the tifos are displayed too.

@@BananLord Here in Sweden we only sing the National anthem when the National Team play. Not even at the cup final anymore and never at European club games. Then it's our own beautiful anthem that echoes and other chants during the Champions League, Euro League or Conference League anthems, trying to drown them out. What you see at BORUSSIA DORTMUND is the grandstand called "Die SÜD" or "The South". There are the Borussia Hardcore Fans. It is impossible to get any tickets for this stand (season tickets only) and it is nearly impossible to get season tickets. They are partly inherited over generations. This grandstand holds 24,454 people. The whole Stadium holds 81.365 people.

Most overhyped Fans in Germany...Not even in the Top 5 in the Bundesliga! Mass is Not Class, 95% on the Süd are just silent Customers that dont really Support much ! Have seen them about 15 Times , it it gets Worse from Year to Year....really sad, cause 10 -15 Years ago , Atmosphere in Dortmund was Top Tier in the League , but Not now, Frankfurt, Schalke, Union, Köln, Stuttgart, Dresden, Magdeburg , Rostock, Kaiserslautern, Bochum for Example have a much better and louder Support in their Home Matches.

Our football teams are up to 150yrs old especially here in Scotland - England, therefore there are a lot of proper rivalries , either with teams from across the city, rival cities or competitive rivalries

There are pretty strict restrictions in Europe too. Atleast in Germany you're not allowed to bring Smoke ore flares to the Stadium. But the Fans still find away to bring them. Every time they do, the Clubs have to pay big penalties. Sometimes fans aren't even allowed to bring any kind of Tifo (e.g. Flags, Banners, drums) with them, as a punishment for riots in the past. Most of the time these kind of punishments are rather random and unfair but that is an other story. The massive choreographys you were stunned by cost a lot of time and money. For example a big one like the ones you guys saw in this video takes weeks of hard work and can cost up to 30k. All of this is to express the love these fans have for their club. That's why all the money comes from donations from other fans or membership fees of fan clubs (Ultras). I hope this explains why you don't see them as often and why American fans can't just copy them for their own team. (Sorry for spelling or grammar mistakes)

i feel like this is a common misconception from europeans fans. at least in my experience, our stadium is always packed, smoke, tifos, etc. we laos have ultra groups but we call them supporter groups. there are also banned flares and smoke here but it's definitely very strict, not sure how anyone would get one in here. While ours isnt nearly as impressive, it doersn't mean they don't happen here

@void_skyy6451 I know that you guys have some good support over there. My comment wasn't meant to degrade this, but instead explain that we can't just bring anything to the stadium. In the video, it seemed like the Uploaders tried to say that you can bring flares and smokes to the Stadiums legally in Europe. And that's why they tend to be more usual in Europe. I think that both supporting cultures can learn a few things from each other to create the best experience possible.

American fans, they do try, they try really hard, and that's the problem. It's choreographed. It's almost as if they see how they should react and try to copy it. Don't bother, just go with it. That "fight and win guy", that's the prime example. Give him his due, he's trying his best to gee up the other fans, but it's too plastic. Too manufactured. A microphone?? All he does is come across as a knob. Just watch the match, start singing, others might follow, then you get the result. As was in the Top Gun Maverick film, "don't think, just do".

Hey there. Ajax fans did turn their backs to the pitch, it's a form of a chant specific to football (soccer) called The Poznan (named after a Polish football club). Various club fans have adopted this chant with varying annotations, some express disagreement with club's management, others do "The Poznan" as a way to show they trust in a good outcome of the game before the match has ended, e.g. your team leads 2:0 with 20 minutes to go. @@lichkinggamer5708 some top club fans do the same. I guess there's room to interpret it in your own way, celebrating a victory before the match has concluded can be taken as offensive, yes, but it's not always used to disrespect anybody, just to show others fans' trust in the victory.

US will never come close to European football fans. Some say Europeans take it too far, but for many it’s far more than just a game. It’s literally life.

You need promotion/relegation in your leagues to get some tension. If the matches don't matter that much you lose some of the excitement in each game.

I think this is a key difference! With the promotion and relegation EVERY match is immensely important! That promotes (no pun intended) tension, excitement, happiness and tears. I do not think US football will get any way near European football unless the whole "pay it, to play it" system gets replaced with promotion and relegation.

Pyro is banned everywhere but we always get it in somehow. Most countries security works together with Ultras/Hooligans they sometimes kinda run the club for a part, groups have a lot of power and influence.

The thing to remember, Europe clubs are old, some of them are 100 years + old and so are their fan clubs. They have had the time to come up with songs and choreography and have grown organically over the decades... it simply takes time to develop. And the pyro can become more of a hindrance and even dangerous. Games have been stopped because players got hit, so maybe don't wish for more flares. Also... are the stadiums in the USA even made with mass jumping in mind? There have been some real horrible accidents in the past, when entire wings came down, people injured and even deaths have been on record. Finally it is rather unfair that some of the most passionate fans closer to the USA have not been mentioned... I'm talking about Brazil, Argentina and all the other South American fans that follow the beautiful game. :)

Well American football are older than 100 Years old. You had also time to develop a fan culture. But you got franchises like at McDonalds. You worried about pyro..you gut guns over there. I would be worried about that. But i am from europe...

Hi. At 9:42 you start talking about "the show" at Frankfurt . Maybe this is one of the big differences or missunderstandings. For these fans it isn't a show but pure passion for the game and the club. They put so much (spare-) time, holidays, money and heart in the choreo to support the team, to back it up, to make them fight harder and to give the players an extra punch of energy. As you said: there is a long tradition in Europe. Often there are three generations supporting a team but it seems like the US is catching up.

Since u mentioned it a few times. Flares and fireworks are not allowed in 90% of Europe aswell. We simply dont give a fck :) But if you get caught/identified you'll receive a stadium ban or even nation-wide ban from all grounds. I think others did well on commenting about history, rivalries and all that good stuff. Which is true. The club is everything for a lot of people. Family, friends, love, passion. They cheer with the club and they break into tears in bad times. This needs time to develop. There are a lot of clubs who are older than the USA.

As I said 6 months ago, y'all Americans are still passionate about food, which, no doubt, prevents you from jumping and partying #justsaying ;)

Btw there is no need to tune out you'll never walk alone, the song is long past anything copyright and it is used by many clubs, even though it's mostly connected to Liverpool since the 60s, they even have the title in their crest. YNWA

@@ipkaa the only time the song was performed in a stadium before Anfield was using the older opera version after the munich air disaster at old trafford, but that was not connected to anything other than the tragedy itself. plus Gerry Marsden gave Shankly a copy of his version in 1963 before it came out, so a Liverpool guy gives his non-opera version to his club, how much more connected can it be. Celtic didn't use it before the 1966 cup winners cup semi-final as well as Borussia Dortmund and later Feyenoord, others followed.

My guy, the US doesn't have the tradition of football as europeans do, most fans are born with their parents inducting them into supporting their favorite teams, hence the 3 generations argument tho id argue 6 generations as we have teams in europe that are even 170 years old The US will catch up in a few decades if the current promotion continues backed by european giants however they will need to implement a promotion/relegation with multiple leagues to draw in tension and fans as their current system removes a lot of the excitement from the game Hope our US counterparts catch up, competition breeds improvement xD

I think the biggest problem with the US fans not being as passionate has to do with that it seems like they always need a "crowd starter" who initiates the whole fireworks and once that guy stops everybody else stops too. In Europe, ANY fan at ANY time can start a fan hymn and then everybody else joins in, and if the guy who has initiated it should stop it absolutely doesn't matter, the rest will keep on going. Good old cascade effect.

I've been there. It was awesome. 6 or 7k Schalke supporters on their way to the stadium. There were a lot of scenes more epic than this.

I think people in the US were trying their style and realized they can be better and noisy. The US clubs want that type of European or South American fans support, chants and songs. Its what the owners want, happy fans electric atmosphere. I'm sure it will start to crossover into NFL and MLB.

European fans can get so wild that at least with my country it's very common for our cops to fly to other countries or them flying here when big matches happen. The passion in derbies, which are matches between fierce rivals, that crowd control is always present and necessary to keep the tone down. Trust me, if you think some of these are wild, imagine if there were no rules 😅

Derby is a game between local sports teams so for example Manchester United vs Manchester City in football or New York Rangers vs New York Islanders in ice hockey or when my country of Czechia plays Slovakia in some sport we call it "federal derby" because we used to be one country. So rivalry alone doesn't make a derby for example perhaps the biggest football rivals FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid isn't a derby but its called "El Clásico"

In the US sport is show/business, in Europe it is passion and identury. You need to understand where that passion comes from. 100+ years ago, football was the working class man's sport (it still is). When you got hiome from 12 hours in the coal mine or steel works or shipyards, on your single day off; you went to see the game. It became the working class' vent, identity and pride. You can see it at 09:50, the Tifosi in front says "My Town, my club". A few years back, FC Porto played against Liverpool, in the champions league. 4000 FC Porto super dragons silenced the Liverpool supporters, at Annfield Road stadium. Being a football ultra is a way of life, it can be expensive to follow your team all over the country during the domestic season, and all over Europe, during the international events

You to have to remember there is always away fans at Europe matches which is why there is always so much noise as they are chanting at each other. The fences are to keep the fans apart to stop violence. It is much less problem's now than there use to be.

Hello guys, I'm surprised, USA is getting better. But you should never forget that football culture has existed in Europe for over 100 years. There are families in which the passion for the club has been passed down through four generations. Then there are differences to the clubs in US, correct me if I'm wrong. From what I've heard, clubs in the USA have owners who sometimes sell the club to other cities. In Europe a club always stays in the same city, it is part of the culture, the city is the club and the club is the city. Then there are rivalries between clubs (cities) that are older than the club, some of which go back to wars and battles from the Middle Ages and which have been adopted into football.

9:53 and this is why it’s in amarica not so good yet because they think at the show or just to come for the show I Europe you have some clubs were are some event fans but all other are passionate ist not just being a fan you literally live for that ist a live style at important games on Europe or champions league they take vacation days and travel with the team take hotels and marches in the city Frankfurt played against Barcelona last year (Frankfurt suprisingly win and win the tournament after taht and win the first international cup since 48 years) there were 30.000 Frankfurt fans in the stadium of Barcelona and 50.000-60.000 in general so the halfe of them doesn’t even have tickets but the takeover Barcelona and travel and book hotels…

First thing they need to chains to see it as entertainment. You gotta see the other team as the enemy, the visitor fans as the opponent. This is war and you can only win by being louder than them.

These shows are made by the fans themselves and they keep creating new ones for every game, especially for the really important ones.

Random fact about the first european clip. The fans are notoriously loud, the stadium gets so loud that players who are not used to it sometimes faint during pregame and can't play the match then.

the last video is from Ajax Amsterdam, around the 90th minute of the game everyone turns around and hugs each other and then jumps to the beat of the song. The song is about 90 minutes of singing and supporting the club.

European clubs have political and territorial history going back a very very long time, some right wing, some left & some in the middle, some have Ultras, others not - but remember, these teams have generations of followers going back from current supporters to great grandfathers - the passion you see in European football is not something you can buy in a store or even try to replicate, it has taken decades, wars, conflicts, riots, social uprisings and many other social impacting events to accumulate to what it is today - so today, it is pure loyalty & dedication, energy, die for your team, stand by your supporters and sing and shout and be there religiously; because, to a lot of these people, soccer comes before their religion and general life! Oh did i omit to mention religion - ah, that's for the next time!!! Ale ale ale - Sadly, America does not have any of the above attributes and will never realistically meet what Europe can offer on the football front - so for your man with the "Cmon Seattle chant......................well, get used to the cheese of the US sadly!" There are only a handful players that came out of the closet. In reality at least thousands of european players are gay but they can’t come out because the fans wouldn’t accept it. It's nice to see that fan culture in the US is getting better and you can't expect that fan culture has caught up with Europe in the short time that soccer has been popular in the US. But the fans that were shown are louder than the Manchester City fans.

It's not about entertainment in Europe, it's part of who you are.

The reason for the difference in passion at football matches in Europe and the US, is that there's a fundamental difference in why people attend the matches in the first place. In North America, when you buy a ticket to a game, you are going as a spectator, you are going to be entertained. In Europe when you buy a ticket to a game, you are going to be a participant. The chants, the songs, the jumping up and down are meant to give energy to your team, and intimidate the opposition. It's aa form of warfare, and you are theee to will your team to win. North Americans simply don't have that same mindset about sports.

The difference between America and Europe is the club you support is a gift you keep until your dying day its something you have inside you and you will fight tooth and nail for your club when us europeans say we would due for our club we really mean we'd die for our club that's how serious we take football on Europe

Football is life in europe its emotions and pride and love all in one no matter what comes out your mouth its always respected unless its match day

US are all about money and marketing, Europe is about pure passion and love for the sport

Yeah when you do those games you know we have something else here. Been in most of those games.

About that US guy with the mic: just look at some of eur Ultras and how the chants started, by hand signal or a guy yelling the first few words, sometimes with a bullhorn. All the things in the EU games you saw was fan made, they bring the drums, flares, flags.... the only thing the Clubs are sometimes involved in are the mega-huge banners. But dont feel bad. Pro Football in the EU has a history way over 100 years, as a working class thing, so the fans look back to a very long tradition with their clubs and working class pride... And someone tell the US fans to ONLY wear/use the colors of their club.

European football is tribal passed down from father to son and all the love and passion that goes with your club 👊🏼

I have seen those kind of videos for years and I can tell you the us is getting better and better every year. Maybe they try to copy/match what is going on in europe (I don't know). But when the US starts something it is usually going fast (but yes, seing people siiting down, not moving and just casually on their phones etc is still not good enough... but we always see a progression wich is great)

This video (in contrast to the Money vs Passion one) shows a sharp improvement in US fans scene. I can state that there are many European clubs which has fans with similar levels of energy and passion...so you are definitely on the right path. Also mind that these are a collection of the best of European supporters...and also that there are many other European clubs with amazing supporters just as the ones on the video. Also European football is felt for real by the great majority of the population and the rivalry is something serious (even when as in most cases, violence is absent). „Restrictions are pretty bad in the us“ Heres the point: its illegal to bring flares etc to games in europe. Also the support is all made by the fans themselves. Finances, creating a tifo etc. none of this is made by the club or any commercial partner. All pure passion by the fans. US could never match

I wouldn't want to meet that Seattle guy in a dark back-alley... 😉 I believe the fans turn their back to the field and jump if their team is leading big and keep rolling over their opponent. Basically it's "friendly" mocking of the opponent telling them "game over" even though they are still playing. We don't have it my national league (yet) but it's quite common in England.

Here in Europe all comes together at the football pitch. Such things as passion, hate, proudness of their hertitage, country, city, part of the city and religion ( catholic or protestant) as well. This had taken ages of wars, plotics and other kind of battles. Maybe best to enjoy it as you know it now in the US. Because it comes at a real cost to society.

I think you've got to give the MLS fans some credit, they are miles better than they were some years ago, and now you've got some big fan cultures rising like FC Cincinnati or LA FC. I think you can easily compare them to European fans

My problem with the US is, that they have just 1 Sector or two (the Studentsector i think they call it.), where they can bring their Choreos, singing, dancing,etc. In Europe the whole Stadium is in the Mode. So the US People can to their Smokebombs, Flags, singing as loud as they wan.t, as long, not the whole Stadium is in the Gamemode, they will never be like Europe or Argentina. Ultras Liberi, Mono Aris.
