Gitmo was not a torture center. It is just outside the US jurisdiction so these terrorists don't get the luxury of American law. And it is far more secure than stateside prisons. Cuba should focus more on it's declined economy and people rather than being a Russian pawn. With time Russia & US will get along & work their differences because none of them has intention of destroying each other with Nukes. But Cuba doesn't benefit from picking sides even if it escalates. It will end up like Yemen

In 1994 Russia convinced Ukraine to give up it's 5000 Nuclear Weapons in exchange for 'Peace' and signed a Treaty called 'The Budapest Memorandum of 1994' which comprised of US, UK and Russia. The agreement was in case any of the Super Powers invaded Ukraine would not be left to defend itself alone. US is upholding it's of the deal. Russia violated that Treaty. Russia also violated the 1999 Treaty for Charter for European Security which Re-affirmed the right of participants to choose their own alliances
