    My dad was originally slated to be aircrew, but he was rejected because of his teeth! I don't remember if he ever explained why, but if you ever flew with an abscess, you know what even that change of pressure feels like, so I figure it was something along the lines of it disabling him at altitude. He went on destroyers as a radioman instead, and that might be why I am here today.

    As a retired U.S. Navy chief petty officer (with service dating back to Vietnam and through Operation Deny Flight over Bosnia-Herzegovina), thank you for your comment and moral support. Brings a tear to my eyes. We need support of all kinds from good people around the world, including the wonderful and strong people of Poland and our stalwart friends in the U.K. The U.S. Navy is serving on the oceans of the world right now and has been for many, many decades -- and will be so as long as there are dictators doing their worst to enslave people. Wish for peace.👍

    How the guy @ 4:52 doesn’t tear his trousers open is just as amazing as everything else in this video. As a combat veteran myself USMC 02-06 Iraq 03, I have nothing but respect for any and all US military service members, and although I have no idea I have to wonder about the level of attention the crew had when they were performing the foreign object discovery walk across the flight deck, seeing many of them not even looking down and maybe just going thru the motions. Again, I don’t know, and I’m not here to discredit. As Marines from 5/11 we had the amazing opportunity to ride home on the LHD-6 USS Bonhomme Richard, and see first hand the amazing size and technological features and advancements that such ships has to offer and work with some of the crew that operates them. We weren’t allowed on the flight deck during flight ops, but they did allow us up there for PT some mornings and even a long nap I took one day at the end of the flight deck with my legs hanging over the edge of the ship as it tore thru the sea. No words could ever put it into perspective how amazing and powerful these ships are, and I will never forget my experiences there, and the good relations we had with the Navy crew members. If I spelled the ships name wrong I apologize, but what did you expect from a Jarhead? I was saddened to hear that the ship was badly damaged from a fire just a few years ago and that it may have been intentional and set by a member of the Navy. Please understand that this is just what we were told from the media, and we all know the level of trustworthiness there so any discrepancies would have to be taken up with them, and while your there please inform them that the position as Pinocchio is taken and not open for discussion no matter how strong their efforts may be.

    Same here on the 70s thru the 90s days. Worked on some pretty intense prototype military aircraft built by Lockheed, Northrop, and Rockwell during that time period. Lot of good people in those years, including the older guys that had tons of knowledge before retiring to help us younger guys back in those days. If a person was serious and wanted to put in the work it took, they could learn all they needed to know is a shorter time period as well. And have top references from the older guys, that most people either knew or had heard their names, for the next company and project. No computers or cell phones either. Many of the bosses already knew bosses in the other aircraft companies directly in those days.

But working on multi-million dollars of machinery is something very few get to do so they doubt it all but those who know know. My 1st was one of the first ships with women on it and they got the same punishment we went through but was raised by and with strong women so no surprise, but at the time our ship was known nationally as The Love Boat, and on 60 Minutes. 2nd was a Frigate and that was what I wanted in the first place and wasn't distracted looking at anyone on that.

    whats the purpose of the weight board for the aircraft? is it to ensure that the plane is not overloaded?

  • @hifinsword

    @hifinsword

    10 ай бұрын

    Each a/c is loaded differently for different missions. Every a/c has a minimum speed for controlled flight, i.e. stall speed. It goes up with weight so as weight goes up, speed must too. The CATAPALT force must be set to accomplish the right speed for that configuration. More bombs, more weight, more speed, needs more CAT force, up to the limit of the nose gear where the shuttle is attached to pull the plane forward. Too much force and you rip off the nose gear. Not enough force for the higher weight and the a/c dribble off the front end into the ocean. The same goes for the arresting wires. Each pilot relays his fuel aboard when calling the ball to land. Less gas means slower approach speed so the tension on the cable must match the force of the a/c when landing. Too much tension and you rip off the tail hook - you dribble off the front end if your brakes can't stop you without the tailhook in a wire. Not enough tension and the wire pulls out too far and the a/c also dribbles off the front end. NOT GOOD!

  • @hifinsword

    @hifinsword

    10 ай бұрын

    The LEX (leading edge extensions) at the front of the nose of the Hornet block air over the tail area in high angle flying such as takeoffs and landings. Flight testing revealed that moving the VERTICAL STABS inward like that directs more air over the elevator for more stability. Notice the slots in the LEX. They allow some air to pass through also. Lowered Flaps change the airfoil into a higher lift wing. Although it adds drag, they also increase lift for slow flight. Notice it's not only the flaps (inboard sections on trailing edge of wing), it's also the ailerons that are lowered for takeoff and landing. They're call full span flaps when used this way. The flaps come up and the vertical stabs come to center once the a/c has a good flying speed. The ailerons and vert stabs then operate independently as demanded by the flight computer.

    I just do not understand how pilot train on the carrier could go to China to train Chinese in the same capability. How is that possible? Whom do they take to fly those planes?

    I thought that the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor was the most feared jet aircraft taking off from the flight deck. The LM F-22 avionics and tactical aspects of the plane are classified. None, as in zero F-22 aircrafts have been, not ever will be in any other countries air force, period, as the electronics and avionics are far superior to any MIG or Sukhoi currently in service. If any pilots from the Navy or Air Force are reading this, your thoughts, please.
