I'm very thankful and proud to have served in the US Navy I shipped out in 87. Boarded the USS Paul FF/1080 in 88 to 91. My eldest son served in 2013 and my youngest son shipped out yesterday. Extremely proud of them both. Any recruits reading this, go in with a good attitude, do exactly what you're told and pay attention to detail!! You got this. God bless and thank you for your service

I served at Great Lakes navy training center in 1995. I was in 2 different companies in basic training and graduated with company 373. 3 others girls also were the same 2 different companies along with me. I was sent to the Uss Benfold DDG 65 in 1996. I went to get tattoos with 2 of the shipmates, one had gotten a tattoo of the 2 of cups. I can do without her. It’s Allgood!

Brother, Thanks for preserving some of the memories brother. Love your channel, I worked at "LIVE FIRE "at RTC for 3 years and never had the honor of wearing the RED ROPE. My hats off to the brothers and sisters that did, much respect. Thanks for your partnership when you brought your recruits to the range as its essential foundation of watch standing in the fleet especially being forward deployed. With love and admiration, GMC(SW/EXW)' Retired.

No one knows what boot camp is actually like unless you sign up and go through it. People can watch these videos and get an idea of what is to come. I went through Parris Island in 1997 and this is Disneyland compared to what I went through. Back in my day we got hazed and smacked around all day long. They will NEVER show that on camera. I tell all these people watching the videos, yeah your laughing now, but trust me when those cameras are off it's a completely different experience.

I’m an old salt here having served back in the eighties. It’s interesting all that has changed in regards to Navy boot camp. I went to NTC/RTC San Diego back in April-May 1982, and subsequently served on the USS New Jersey BB-62. Absolutely amazing command to be assigned to! Anyways, congratulations, and good luck to all who are making the choice to join the Navy!! And, as repeated numerous times, listen, and pay attention to detail, and think as a team, and you’ll do fine!! 🇺🇸⚓️

I remember when i went through in 1999 (yeah I'm showing my age lol), our Initial Fitness Test was a 1.5 mile run/walk and I think we had about 14 minutes to do it. And in those days the PRT was a sit/reach test, curl-ups, push-ups and a 1.5 mile run. At 17 years old at the time I had to do 60 curl-ups, 51 push-ups and run the 1.5 miles in under 11 minutes. My how things have changed!

Like palms up doing the finger thing I can’t have my palms directly up. I passed the exam with the chief medical person but clearly I wasnt doing exactly what he was doin and unsure if I should be worried. My recruiter keeps saying don’t trip but i dont know if they actually put it in or not. I have nail patella syndrome but it only affects my elbows currently. I ship may 30th. Gonna talk to recruiter again to make sure but she def gonna say the same thing.

Reenlisting here by end of August. 10 years of service, but will only count towards retirement. Did Navy, then the national guard and left as an E-4, [*1]. I'm going into active service as prior service. Was told if I'm lucky I would enter as E-3 and I would have to return to boot camp by my recruiters. My question is, what should I be expecting at RTC as a prior service going active? Would I be considered NAVET, or is that just for reservist? While I have been trying like hell to research all that I can, I would appreciate first hand knowledge if you have the time. Very respectfully, A ”not so new” sailor. [*1] Made and was frocked to OS2, but left the navy before I officially entered the pay grade. During my time in the national guard, I had a change of heart about life in the military and didn't want to take rank from my fellow soldiers who were attempting to make a career out of it.

Do not fall for the trainer's attempts to get you to work up some bravado and show all just who's the best swimmer in your training group! This is nothing more than an effort to graduate a number of class 1 and 2 swimmers to send to the Fleet. This means when you get to your next duty station aboard ship you will be assigned, in addition to the division you are billeted to the Ship's Lifeboat detail. And that means every time some dumbass goes overboard, on purpose or accidentally, day or night, it will be YOU who will be lowered over the side in the duty whaleboat to go search for their ass. Have you ever seen the Ocean at night? It sure as Hell doesn't look like an indoor heated pool. A it's best when calm and overcast and you're close enough to hear him yelling you MIGHT find them, or If Command has orders to be on station somewhere, they may leave you. Only the Naval Aviators are considered important enough to delay the ship and get helos effect rescue. Ever been to the Sea of Japan in Winter when the swells are 30 up 30 down and it's blowing snow at 50 knots? How about the South China Sea where there's so much plankton the sea looks like the Milky Way Upside down. And your looking for a crew member with a 1 D Cell flashlight on their inflatable flight vest. Oh, and for no pay.

Speaking from the experience of performing my boot camp service week at the RTC San Diego training pool in 1976. Just do what is necessary to pass the requirement for basic swimmer. If your ship is hit and you're ordered to abandon ship you will either die from the fire or get eaten by sharks long before you get tired from treading water.

@liviiiel9380 I actually failed it as well my first try, but then they give you 3 more chances. Since he got the call, he must've failed those as well. At this point he is now in a group that just practices running every day, and they take the pacer again every week until they pass. I won't lie, it's gonna suck for him, but if he's able to push through the suck he'll be okay. I know you will be worrying about him, but once he passes the pacer he will be alright as long as be tries in whatever task is in front of him, like test and stuff. There is a fitness test near the end, but if he fails the run, he will get put on a stationary bike and that thing is super easy, no one ever really fails that unless they aren't trying. But, he'll be alright as long as he tries. If you are able to write him letters, keep them often and consistent if you can so he knows you're encouraging him, and maybe it'll help him feel less alone. I know that was a big problem for me.
