    Modeled it after a book press. Going to need version 2, the top is starting to bow under the stress.

    Great video, very nicely done. Do you ever try and fill the tiny gaps? I’ve just done one and there are some tiny little holes and I’m tempted to fill with saw dust and glue 🤔

    Depending on the size or amount. When doing something for myself I will try that but when for others I will try and recut the inly plug to fit better.

    Great work! What depths did you use for the pocket and inlay settings in vcarve?

  • @ARBWoodwork

    .2 inches for the flat depth of the pocket Start depth 0.18 and flat depth 0.08 for the plugs.

    Really nice work! How are you getting such detailed vector art. Do you use some graphic program like Illustrator or Photoshop? Or a camera then importing using the import bitmap feature in VCarve? I would like to do more on my guitar fretboards…Anyway thanks for the great videos.

    The press is a prototype that I modeled after a book press I saw an image of. It is all made from plywood. The screw that I used was a shoulder vice screw that I found on Lee Valley Tool's site. www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/tools/workshop/workbenches/vises/31134-shoulder-vise-screw?item=70G0151

    Anywhere from .25 to .3 depending on the bit. On my old machine I had to do multiple passes. I have an older video that shows this process.

    @@ARBWoodwork Hi very nice. Did you use multiple files for this piece, because for the eagle male part the height is much smaller than the letters. Thank you

    Nice job .why didn't you program your cnc to cut out your inlay instead of using your band saw .I see everyone do that and it seem faster to cut it on your cnc while it's there ,anyways great work

  • @ARBWoodwork

    @ARBWoodwork

    Thanks for watching! I have thought about that. Right now I don't have a consistent thickness for my plugs so I would have to change that depending on the blank I use. Also I am finding that breaking the plug into smaller pieces helps in the glue up. With the thin kerf of the bandsaw I am able to get to tighter areas for separating the pieces.

    Great work 👍🙌 How do you get your cnc to start carving away the excess wood after inlay glue up? I just started using Vectric Vcarve so i wad wondering if you could help me out Thank you

  • @ARBWoodwork

    @ARBWoodwork

    2 жыл бұрын

    I create a pocket toolpath that is just under the depth of the excess sticking out of the plug. The shape of the pocket is created with the offset tool with an outwards distance of a 1/4 inch around the perimeter of the inlay. Sometimes I just draw a new path around complicated shapes with some clearance for the inlay ad use that instead of the offset.

    @@ARBWoodwork I found put the touch plate on top of two pieces of paper with 0 cut depth works, and don’t need to worry about the pocket piece height.( just make sure the pocket piece waste is not too thick since it has to be one pass)
