which state/univ is his brother in? Learnt a lot of good pointers. Duolingo test being accepted by universities was something new to me.

Hi Vidya… what was these essays about. Can we get more info on this? F1 visa is it required for a student studying here and not a US citizen. Also please suggest websites to look in for these information

Each university has their list of essays as part of the application process. They will also have a list of scholarships they provide, eligibility requirements etc. Essays are an integral party of the college admissions process in the US. They change the essay topics each year but you can get an idea of what it was in the past years from searching on google.

If you are citizen or have green card or even H4 visa (not 100% sure please double check) then you don’t need but for everyone else yes you need the F1 visa.

Mine is a different case altogether, I am in a managerial role/ visa in the US and my daughter is on a dependent visa. She has her EAD and SSN, did all four years of high school here. She took her duolibgo scores, ACT etc. but still continues to be considered as international student for lack of the green card.. and having to pay the whopping fee 😢

I thought H4 students are eligible for instate tuition. Issue is if you are on h4 you are not eligible for OPT

Yes unfortunately you have to be a permanent resident to qualify for state tuition. I had to convert my H4 to F1 when I did MBA. Because back then there was no H4 EAD so I could do internships (with CPT and OPT) only on F1.

The scholarships we mentioned in the video are ones that international students can apply to. Each university has a list of scholarships. Yes most of them are open to only instate kids (here in VA merit based ones are so less compared to other states), some are open to out of state (my daughter is on one at her university), and some to internationals as well. We have go through the fine print of each scholarship at each university. I’m talking about merit based scholarships and because of the stiff competition you have to be top of the admitting class to qualify. 😔

@@bijuvidya no, H4's aren't eligible for instate tuition, any dependent visa falls into the "international" category. My daughter is on L2, and OPT wasn't required/ recommended since she has got her EAD card and has been working part time during summer

Yes depending on the universities that is full fee without any scholarships. Please watch the video in full. He got a full ride (all tuition covered) to the university he is attending. He only has to pay room and board.
