This sure is a piece of artwork. Knowing the history of the civil war. I had an ancestor who fought in the confederacy. I hope this history still lives on. I love history so much I would love to keep it alive myself

I've lived in the South my whole life and before I even knew what the war was about I liked the south. When I grew up I still liked them but not slavery. Though Lee was one of the best commanders this country had ever seen. He could have been born at any time and fight like he did.

I remember listening to this song as a kid and just thinking it was a song Travis sang but I’ve just figured out it’s part of a Civil war Album! Not only that but another great song I’ve known “Brother my Brother” is also apart of it!!. I’m so glad I found this song. War is Hell and the soldiers fighting it know more about that than any of us.

all the hours in a lifetime don't add up to one whole minute in that sun. I wrote my masters thesis on Soldiers at Shiloh. The experience of battle as they wrote about it. That seems like a good description.

I know a lot of people say this song is about Gettysburg, but I think Antietam is a better description of the song. In the beginning he speaks as a confederate soldier anxious to bring the fight to the Union. The battle of Antietam was Robert E Lee’s first invasion of the north. The song then proceeds to describe a bloody day. The battle of Antietam was and still remains the single bloodiest day in American history.

@Hope To The Weak its actually the cheapest and easiest to get into out of all of the reenactment communities from my experience. I just started myself but you can get uniforms and equipment relatively cheap on Facebook and C&C Sutlery online. If you want a custom uniform checkout the Maryland Sutler they did my 3rd great grandpas bucktail brigade uniform for me and it turned out beautifully and well priced since they let you split payments

This is a brilliant video with a great and moving song. Who ever put this together should get a special award. I've watched it 4 times and emailed it to friends. "War is hell!" Gen. Sherman said as he burned his way from Atlanta to the sea. But we all agree that Slavery was worse. Ironically three months before the guns spoke at Fort Sumter a survey of the 1860 census showed it was dieing a natural death and would have been gone by 1890 because the cost of keeping slaves was getting to costly.

"Any people, anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right, a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. (continued)

Hurrah for both sides I think both sides have pretty sound reasons to fight for what they did and yeah today we see the South as evil but really apart from the slavery thing they were mostly the same and if you think of it they saw having slaves as the freedom to have slavery which isn't wrong but morally isn't been look down upon and it is bad I'm not condoning slavery at all but I'm really trying to be unbias and respectful to all points of view and why it is chosen you or was. so Yeah Hurrah for all those who have died and God bless yall.

Then you should know John Bell Hood, was born in Owingsville, Kentucky, June 1 1831 and graduated from West Point in the class of 1853, had by all odds the most spectacular advance in rank of any officer in the Confederate service. Her died in New Orleans of Yellow Fever along with his wife and one child on Aug 30, 1879 and is buried in Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans. Hood lead the famous "Texas" Brigades, during the war in which he lost a leg and the use of his arm before the war ended.

The weirdest thing of all, is that the north at the end could have fielded two million men. A supply line, and tactics that could have done what empire builders could never have achieved. Both north and south were on a war footage and had been for four years. The veterans were made of steal on both sides. Yet they never looked beyond America. The colonial powers must have been concerned. That kind of fire power and might. America could have picked it's country, and won easily. However it is so sad that the events happened.

The fighting men's motives are usually very different from the powers that control them's motives. No side is fully right. No side is perfect. The point is, that no matter how long ago, whether 143 years or 2000 years ago, we still need to look for truth, and see: if the victor is really as riteous as he claims

@Kaeladino the war was about preserving the union in the north and yes i'm a military historian, sure slavery had a little to do with the war, but only rich landowners could own slaves and the majority of the confederate army were poor farm boys defending their state and home from blue clad invaders (i love both north and south)
