US ARMY w/ STRYKER APC support engages in HEAVY URBAN CQB | Combat Mission Shock Force 2

Combat Mission SF2 Playlist: • Combat Mission Shock F...
So today we play the WeGo or turn-based mode instead of the RTS or real time version.. honestly I think with smaller battle sizes like this RTS would've been a better option but I wanted to check it out. Mostly because you can rewind, observe and check out everything that happens which is very cool for KZread. This didn't end up 100% I had intended it to go but I think that I am starting to understand most of the games mechanics. Sadly not ALL of them just yet lol. Hope you enjoy!
CMSF2: store.steampowered.com/app/13...
ABOUT THIS GAME
The latest title in the famous Combat Mission franchise of wargames, now on Steam. Shock Force 2 brings you to a hypothetical conflict in Syria between the forces of NATO and the Syrian Army.
HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED
Players are assigned detailed missions to accomplish based on a richly diverse set of Objectives. Missions can be played in either Real Time or our WeGo hybrid turn based mode introduced with the first Combat Mission game 20 years ago. WeGo allows each player to plan out 60 seconds of combat and then watch as both sides' commands are carried out simultaneously. The WeGo system also allows for re-watching turn action and playing against another player by email (PBEM) or "hotseat" on a single computer. RealTime and WeGo head to head play can also use TCP/IP on a LAN or over the Internet. Massive replayability comes from a unique Quick Battle system which allows players to purchase their own custom force and fight over the battlefield of their choice from a wide array of different maps. A powerful map and scenario Editor allows you to create battles or campaigns for yourself and others.
HOW UNITS ARE PORTRAYED
All units are portrayed one for one in 1:1 scale in high resolution polygon 3D models with articulated suspensions, animated hatches, and other features that make them feel real. Unlike other 3D tactical wargames, Combat Mission combines real world physics with a thoroughly researched portrayal of forces, right down to what the individual soldiers cary into battle. Advanced vehicle damage modeling allows for tracking of each sub-system, including the most realistic ballistics, armor and post-armor effects available in any game. Unlike other games that claim this level of realism, Combat Mission actually delivers it across the whole spectrum of warfare, including the interaction of weather, lighting, and terrain on how units and their weapons function.
Perhaps the most important feature of Combat Mission is its detailed and innovative portrayal of "soft factors". Experience, Morale, Leadership, and other elements operate at the individual soldier level and collectively transform how units behave. As important as these battlefield concerns are, most other games give them short shrift or don't bother covering them at all. In the real world having the best weapons means nothing if the soldiers crewing them are balled up in fear or are too distracted to see what's going on around them.

useful fun fact: giving infantry move orders to dismount will wait for the vehicle they are in to finish moving before they get out, pressing the dismount command on the other hand will have the vehicle stop and drop out all of it's infantry at the start of a turn unless the infantry were given pause orders. as a bonus i also recommend Hapless' Formation guide video on the stryker infantry batallion, it showcases the strengths and weaknesses of the stryker very well and is worth a watch if you haven't seen it already.

The unit that calls in the artillery needs to keep eyes on the target for it to be effective, they are correcting the shots. Yours got killed... Officers, or even better, dedicated units, are great for that role. Somepne eith binoculars and radios far back are ideal in any case. Their stress level and if they are fighting will also decrease their effectivnesd as spotters.

@@theShermanator Just got to your second artillery strike and you could see the difference yourself when you used an officer that wasnt under fire instead of an panicked squadleader with a basic radio! Btw, "personell" rounds are airburst, and less effective against buildings but deadly for unprotected footmen or people in trenches. General explode on contact and better if you want to level something.

Turn based is probably the way to go, usually because some situations just develop fast, and if you lose a unit or an entire squad without immediately knowing you can rewind the turn to see exactly what happened. Plus it's cool to be able to just rewatch intense firefights.

With target orders you can click inside the building and not just outside. My tip for taking a building Target the upper floors with the Strykers by clicking inside the upper floors. Some of your troops can ambush them on the bottom floors when they withdraw from the upper floors.

A good scenario to try might be "A day at the beach". It's a big showy battle, but much easier than something like this. You have UTTER superiority of firepower with the US navy supporting the marines, arriving in amphibious vehicles, and it's basically about clearing out trenches. But it's at night, and the marines have nightvision, while the syrians dont. A good starter battle ro get confident with the game.

I use area target more so than point target as it actually keeps a tight group if you designate a tight area. Also basically any troop can call in fire support if they have a radio. Even vehicles, also vehicles are fitted with optics which are way better than binos but its a limited cone for me it felt like whenever I used a vehicle to call in support it was way more accurate. Also for realtime taking all the time in the world is helpful. Finally another thing there is a mod that changes the enemy icons so that suspected and confirmed icons are different colours, so suspected or last seen points turn up grey unlike when they usually are just read

In Shock Force 2 in some games Real Time Strategy is recommended. For the following reasons in H to H the Red Players can't use to its full potential the IED as the triggerman has to activate the device in RTS mode in WEGO its victim will drive straight past. Normally I too prefer WEGO for the micromanagement.

You only supress with 50 cal. Mk3s would eat a lot of limited ammo. These strykers is only as good as transport. 50cal would not even kill a prone soldier inside a house

The Shermanator a channel called the war simmer has made a number of tutorials on the game, though i wouldnt blame u if u dont want to get into it, its rather clunky and atleast as complex as combat mission plus you cant always give direct orders to units. But in my opinion its the best combat simulator out there

You'll see boy, the only mistake you did during this operation was to assume that your superriors actually wanted the Hospital to be there to be taken, you could just as easily just blown the hell out of it and then took it, if the army wanted that building standing it would tell you, other wise it's army police to fuck everything up before putting their life in danger, you see the army it's not about fair fighting

That's when you give silly orders. Like playing chess, when you get your King and Queen forked by a Knight your opponent will beat you fair and square. 1 minute and you can pause your order with 5 second increments. I do my risky moves in the last 10 seconds in a turn.

you can't play this game like men of war. The 1st Platoon should setup SBF in the small houses vehicles stand off. Attack targets of opportunity. Strykerws rushing at a multi story building is asking for trouble if you dont smoke the approach. Create Breaches destroy the walls. Send the SBF guys back into their vehicles to get more ammo and Javellins and blast the hell out of the front windows. If You hold shift while setting an arc you can make a 360 arc for the infantry that helps them fight in buildings.
