Uruguay's Jose Mujica - "The poorest president in the world"

The President of Uruguay Jose Mujica has been dubbed by international media as 'the poorest president in the world'.
In his latest official declaration of wealth, he says he owns just two vehicles, a small amount of property and his farmhouse. He donates 90% of his salary to charity.
Mujica became president of Uruguay after a landslide victory more than two years ago. After a half a term in power, he is now backing a bill to legalise the use of cannabis.
Video produced by BBC Mundo's Vladimir Hernandez and Gerardo Lissardy.

I live in the U.S.. I'm smiling watching my Italian ancestor drink from the bottle of whiskey! Reminds me of my grandpa & my dream is to one day meet Jose Mujica. I live by the same principle he does. Keep as little material possessions as possible. I permanently disconnected the cable TV, to cut a bill, & not waste time being distracted by nonsense. Keep it simple! One thing I find difficult about being poor. When you have to do everything yourself, you can't achieve your best!!

Que hablan de que no termino la secundaria , y sabe mas que cualquier tonto que habla bobadas de el. Mujica sos un grande y te yo admiro.

a poor man is the man whom acquire things he does not need for his life, all the luxury and unnecessary things he does not need because he will spend the rest of his resources trying to maintain that life which he does not need. we all remember the case of mc hammer the popular rapper of the early 90s. whom used all his wealth trying to maintain a life he did not need and eventually was bankrupt to zero.

I love this man! and yes, not everyone will undestand, but he is true to himself! and about negativity polls, i wonder how based it really is? and to that Lacaile ex-prez saying"it could have been better", it's what politicians do - talk is cheap, especially when you dont have any responsibility! had HE done a good job, Mujica wouldnt have won a "landslide victory", so he (Lacaile) of all people should pipe it! i wonder does this report deliberately end on a subtly sour note? i wonder...

what is the definition of a poor man or a rich man.this is an austere life of basic living. like other people who acquire wealth they dont need and make the peoples life hell for acquisition of material needs they do not need. a man has ten houses but he only lives in one room and can only live in one house aat a time. hope other so called world leaders will learn from this. democracy is about the people and not the leaders. just as exhibited by this honest leader here
