You only need five pieces of information to make a diagnosis! They are:
1. Serum sodium
2. Serum osmolality
3. Urine osmolality
4. Urine sodium
5. An assessment of the patient's fluid balance
Causes include:
Pseudohyponatraemia
Primary polydipsia
Adrenal insufficiency
Hypovolaemia
Oedematous States
SIADH
And take it from there! Hope you enjoy these videos - leave us some feedback and tell us what you'd like to see us cover next!

Don't forget about hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar state is osmolality is more than 320 and patient is in shock!

Wait, why is 100mmol/L high urine osmolality? 300-900 is the reference range so that would be low.

In the context of hyponatraemia, the 'normal' reference range is shifted - appropriate response of the kidneys should be getting rid of water, meaning low urine osmolality - lower than 100
