Baby Hitaishi has a rare genetic condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 leaving her muscles weakened throughout her body and prone to pneumonia and infection.
It can be treated with gene therapy but costs US $2 million. And it's a race against time - her parents have until 15 August at the latest to raise the money.
