Exploring Abandoned House with Crickets
Built in 1790 according to the houses date stone, this historical abandoned farm house sits here abandoned looking for a new buyer. The land is for sale but zoned commercial use only. The sign does say that whomever buys the land must rehab the house. Although I did not get any inside pictures due to the lack of natural light, I did get inside video. I called this place the cricket house as the house had thousands of crickets in it. Not the place for those who hate bugs. Anyway, check it out, let me know what you think. 200+ years old and still standing...
Buy the flashlight you saw in the video. Great Price and great flashlight. Go here... noctic.com/products/noctic-fo...

    It is amazing to think of all the families that have been raised in that home and all the history it has endured. If those walls could talk... It still has a charm about it and I hope someone with a lot of money will fix it up.

    I didn't expect to be first to comment but I'll take advantage of the opportunity! That staircase was once impressive. This was the home of a well-to-do farming family. The staircase and the side of the house itself. I noticed an early version of the built-in closet" very shallow: clothing then was hung up facing outward rather that from the side. I'm glad this house will be saved. Partly from watching your videos, Steve, a big part, I've gone from simply enjoying old houses to taking a serious interest in the history of American domestic architecture. Your videos are as good as going to a college class. I'm ready for the next video!

    Very nice to tour. Love the spring house, stone support fence in the yard, and commode in the corner! LOL Yes~~ as one man answered prior, the holes in the floors were for rising heat. My homestead house, built in the 1800s, still had these. Mostly, it was the only way we could get heat upstairs, from the basement and lower level. We had a coal furnace, but originally there were fireplaces in every room. I wonder if someone tore down a big chunk of the wall in the attic?

    Crickets mean good luck.....maybe that is why this home is for sale and not being torn down.....Its a shame the other beautiful homes you had shown us that were not as far gone weren't saved as well.

    I get so annoyed when I see all types of older abandoned, empty houses and buildings. Not many people have Respect for the Historic value and the stories behind these walls. In 2016, it's all about knocking down the old and building some cheaply built prefab homes or buildings. I'd give anything to be able to live in one of these old homes with it's stories and with all it's fabulous craftsmanship. The architectural details and the time it took to draw up blueprints, then the years it took many good man, to built such a magnificent home. I can hear the floors as I walk down the hallway, or as I take a step by step up to the 2nd floor. With every step I take an echo of a squeak fellows my footprints that I leave behind on the dusty old floors, underneath lay beautiful hardwood floors that are longing for someone to come save them. The musty smell fills the air. You can hearing the wind blowing through the cracks on the walls or a broken out window. I could stay here for hours, taking it all inside of me. Trying to imagine what life was like years ago, for the family that lived in this house.

    I think they are trying to let the house get so bad it isn't salvageable. Developers and some times the buyer will do this when they don't care about the house. It is called Demolition by Neglect. A lot of cities have made it illegal to do this so they can save historic properties from being "removed" this way.

    I have a story for you Steve, and thought you'd appreciate it since you like the old houses like I do. Last year, when I moved to PA, I found out a person my daughter knows owns a really old stone house built in 1845. Someone over the years of course modernized it here and there, but still an extremely cool house. Problem is, eventually someone wanting to open a restaurant bought it. They didn't turn the house into the restaurant though, they built the restaurant AROUND the outside of the house! Then this lady bought it and now the restaurant part is an indoor yard sale store! It's been about a year and a half since I moved here, and I'm still mad! LOL I wish so much that I had the money to buy her out and tear down the stupid looking add on!

    Too bad it is zone commercial only. That zoning is not probable for the layout of the stone walls of this house. Maybe an antique store lol. Very substantial house for 1790's and was built onto over the years as well. VERY interesting design with the large opening now filled on the sunny side as you walked up. The front has a very substantial porch with a patio!!! The patio has a tree grown up through were the original surface would have been. Very old tree on that porch. There are a lot of things that have been robbed from this house including a probable dated lintel over the door of the spring house. That spring house is about to go and way more dangerous than it looks. This house must have been owned by an important rich person from the start. This is not a normal large country house or farm house in like the "Livingston mansion" in your previous videos you revisited. The clue is the large front patio for entertaining and the large kitchen cook fireplace. Very nice to see this house Steve, thank you very much. Would love to see the listing. I wouldn't be surprised if a politician built it.

    I think it is a really neat old house but would probably take well over $1million to refurbish. Honestly as a former insurance agent now retired and disabled I don't know of any insurance agency that would insure the property during really reconstruction. It is just a shame that the property was left to fall apart. I for one would not want the house due to the type of writing on the walls of the one room. I love that attic wall of stone, pretty sure it is for the fireplaces.

    The trouble required to create the 'bathroom' annotations, and their potential positive effect, makes me think that perhaps some sort of post abandonment party or 'rave' may have gone on there at some point. In which case, assuming no damage was done to the property, at least it is being put to some sort of good use, in addition to your showcasing of the property, which is a good thing.

  • @MaxZomboni
    @MaxZomboni8 жыл бұрын

    I wonder what the holes in the floor were for? The bathroom looks like it was from the 1930sor 40s. The graffiti looks like it was put there in the 1980s. So it's been abandoned a long time. Over all probably not too bad a condition considering how long it has been abandoned.

  • @alibabafurball

    @alibabafurball

    The square holes in the house are for the hot air from below to rise up to heat the home. It would have had a cast iron grate over every one of them. The parlour room would have most likely had a very ornate grate over it. The big clue for abandonment is the very large tree 50 year plus growing on the front outer "deck" that is past where the porch was.

    It may be kind of plain but that looks like a house I'd enjoy fixing up... if I had the money... or any money for that matter. Kind of like an old car, the more plain it is the more possibilities it has. I could fix the walls, not good with floors or ceilings. If the plumbing and wiring are sound the worst would be if the foundation is good and windows would be costly. It's probably on septic and with MY butt... that wont do...

    From the outside, it still looks pretty solid structurally. Inside remove all the lathe/plaster, all the pipes and electrical, remove the water damaged floor, remove the enter roof except for the joist. Replace everything you took out, and replaced the missing kitchen, replace the bathroom pieces, add more modern heating/AC. The stairs look pretty solid but need refinished, and all the banisters need replaced. Repair/Replace all the windows. You can bet all the chimneys need repaired. Gut the basement and pour a concrete floor. In other words, it would just be easier and cheaper to take this house down, recycle what wood is worth it, and built a safe, comfy. modern replica.
