Urban Sketching in Edinburgh

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Are you participating yet in Drawing Bingo?
While I'm currently traveling and gearing up for a series of workshops in September, October, and early November, I stil want to get you going - and keep you going!
That's why I created a Drawing Bingo card just for you.
You can get it through this link: www.koosjekoene.com/drawing-b...
Cross off as many prompts on the bingo card as you can, aiming to complete one every day. I'll be here each week to offer that extra motivation to keep you going. Sound good? Let's go.
If you've checked off all prompts, then: congratulations! Go ahead and comment below with BINGO!
For today's drawing, we'll be using the website window-swap.com. On this website, people from all over the world are submitting videos, recorded from their windows.
Let's find a window with a view to sketch. It'll feel like you're visiting someone at their home in Turkey, the UK, the US, Sweden or wherever you choose to go, and stare out of their window to draw the view.
You can put the video on loop if you don't want the website to automatically switch to a new window after 10 minutes.
EDINBURGH!
If you'd like to travel to Edinburgh for real, with me: clear your calendar for July 22-26 2024! I'll be teaching a 5-day vacation workshop, and I'd love for you to join.
Don't hesitate too long, because it's a small-group workshop, so tickets are limited.
Go here for info and enrollment: studio56boutique.com/pages/ed...
MATERIALS used in this video:
-Hahnemühle Watercolor sketchbook, A5, portrait
-Edding 3000 permanent marker
-Daniel Smith Watercolors
-Pentel Aquash waterbrush
YOUR ASSIGNMENT TODAY:
Find a window with a view to sketch.
If you'd like to visit the same window as I did for today's video, then go here:
www.window-swap.com/share.htm...
Don't forget to put the video on a loop if you want your view to last longer than the standard 10 minutes.
Enjoy your drawing time, and don't forget to cross it off on your Bingo Card.
If you're sharing your art inspired by Drawing Bingo on social media, then please use the hashtag #kksdrawingbingo, so I can see what you made.

On 9 May 2019 I drew a similar sketch, with a watercolor wash, of an apartment complex across the street from the laundromat where I was doing my laundry. The complex was on the Rue de Vasco De Gamma, in the south of Paris. The next day I did the same for the Norte Dame Cathedral as it was being repaired. The plein air work brings back memories much better than any photograph. After a week in Paris we moved on to Normandy to take in the history and sights. Made for more great plein air work and memories. Beautiful part of the world.

Thank you for your video. It's splendid. I've started doing urban sketching for the few months & now I see the world in a conpletely different way. Sometimes we try too hard to find happiness in our life only to find all the happiness around us to be explored. 🙂🖌️🎨🌆

WOW! I'd never heard of window swap before! Just checked it out! There was one in Canada with a beautiful monstera and it was snowing in New Jersey and St Paul's Reunion was so peaceful and green! 😍 The only thing that could make it better is if it were LIVE 😆 completely unfeasible I know! Can't wait to get stuck in ~ thanks for telling us about it! Your drawing looked great btw! 👍🏼

When I saw the prompt I thought, “Meh.” However, as you progressed I became inspired! The lines and shapes you pulled from it made it seem like a fun exercise. I will try this! You are a talented instructor, Koosje. Your comments are well timed for the subject at hand. Thank you for sharing. BTW, I do have your book. It is an enjoyable read.
