    Great video Paul. I really like the idea about putting the compressed pellets on top of the shavings. I've been doing it just the opposite for years, but I like your way better. Thanks for the tip.

    I keep Guinea Pigs, another prey animal and have kept Rats in the past too. Naturally I love my animals, but I'm also aware that in nature they would likely be food for predators such as snakes. I am pleased to see that your 'feeder' set up is clean, monitored and in excellent condition. It is so good to see the animals are healthy and cared for during their life span, which in nature is usually very short. Well done!

  • @urbanconstrictors.

    @urbanconstrictors.

    Жыл бұрын

    No I don’t. It’s not really possible with ASF. They’ll kill any new comers to the group. Even ones that was a part of that group and is been returned. The best way imo is to put 1.6 or 2.10 in a tub and let them get on with it. Then if or when you loose one from a group it’s best to let a baby group up in that group. I hope that makes sense

    On day 7 (cleaning day) it’s pretty smelly. But the day I clean to day 5 it’s not bad at all. I clean everything really well and use a mix of wood shaving and wood pellets what helps a lot with odour. In warmer months I have the fan attached to the wall running 24/7. So no smell at all. But if I do that in colder months the rats get too cold. Then they’ll stop breeding. So I’m trying to just get it right. Not much sell and max production.

So I compost it all along with garden waist like leaves and branches and also all my snake bedding (ReptiChip) as long as I turn it well once a week (on cleaning day) wet it and add some food scraps it stays hot (over 120f) and breaks down. It’s a lot of work when it gets big. But I don’t want to have to drive it somewhere to dispose of. So it works for me

    It's not as bad as it seems. They don't need toys because they are always busy mating or taking care of babies anyways (although temporary chew toys can help if they are stressed). Typically they gather in groups inside dark, tight spaces to breed naturally. The only time they explore is when looking for a new home or food, both of which are taken care of. You can always provide a larger individual setup, but if these rats were stressed you'd see marks from self harm and behavioral issues.

    It’s not the subscribers mate. It’s the people that stumble across the video when looking for rodent (pet) videos... They are the ones that get offended and start to kick off. Then they go shopping and buy meat to eat 😆😆😆

    @@urbanconstrictors. I'm one of those people that stumbled across your video. Although I don't really feel offended and I do appreciate that you are treating them nicely until the time comes, with all due respect, I wouldn't go as far as to equate humans satisfying one of their own basic needs (such as eating fully nutritious stuff) with having a pet :) Yes, most of us do participate in animal killing, but I think it's a matter of where we personally decide to draw the line of these kinds of natural interventions.

    You're an animal lover but put these intelligent animals into tiny jail cells for the rest of their lives... The least you could do would be add enrichment such as toys and hides.
