Urban Fishing in Pittsburgh - Multi Species Caught on the Allegheny River

The nostalgia trip! I fished the river a lot when I was young, and I busted out my old baitcaster combo for this adventure. Worked my way down the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and caught some bass and a drum. I need some better fish identification skills! The lure of the day was the Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap in silver and blue. Also had a giant break me off on my very first cast. Such an awesome day. I hope you enjoy.

Great day of fishing downtown Pittsburgh. Pretty sure that was a big ole musky that took your bait there at the beginning, and that was definitely a drum you caught there at the end. Awesome video!

You never know what you will catch out of the 3 rivers. I caught an alligator gar out of the Ohio on Neville Island last summer. Flatheads to muskie and saugeye not to mention the stripers. Summer night fishing with cut and live bait it can be better than Erie trolling. Nice video!

I don't mean to offend you or anything but it wouldn't be an alligator gar you got up here. I'm a fisheries biologist and lived in Pittsburgh all my life and WISH alligator gar were up here but they are a southern species. Up here we just have spotted gar, shortnose gar and longnose gar so you got one of those. Nonetheless they are all a really cool fish and going down south to catch an alligator gar is still on my list of dream fish to catch

@@ericfelix7388 No offense taken, I'm just a good ole boy fishing on the river raised up that all those long nose teethy fish are alligator gar. I don't know how to upload a picture but it was about 20" and had some spots so maybe spotted? IDK thanks for taking the time to reply.

Go further up Mon next trip near Sandcastle Water Park. Homestead Grey's Bridge. And the Dam behind Kennywood Park😃😃. Been fishing that river since I was a kid when the mill was still open. Unfortunately for the steel city the mills are gone. But the water is clean and fishing is good.

The last was a freshwater Drum for sure. I never catch anything out of that river. Honestly had no idea there were all those species in there. Honestly was beginning to question if there are any fish in any of the three rivers. This video just restored my faith lol.

I have a dumb question... Would you eat those fish? I'm not a fisherman, but I boat in that area all summer. I always see people fishing the rivers, but I know how nasty the water can be. Are the fish edible? Would they taste funny? I always wondered that.

It depends where you catch them. The state outlines what is a permissible amount to eat each month based on how contaminated they are. One meal per month is typical. Personally… I’d rather go to wholeys..
