The little Vespa trailer is nothing more than a whisper of aluminum, foam, and canvas...but in the sum of its parts, it becomes a harbor in the tempest and a conduit of human joy and connection. It creates a safeguarded space for us to enjoy the simple moments in life. Please enjoy this little refuge with me.

    Thanks for taking us along, I very much enjoined the trip. I'm curious about the song with the banjo riff in the beginning as it sounds exactly like a friend and composer from Australia by the name of Art Phillips? Also, your vlogging style is similar to a guy from Japan who does similar DIY camping videos. I love his meditative and cinematic style of film making, and if you have a moment perhaps you might find some inspiration from it 'Tales Along the Way' is the channel and 'Solo car camping] A cold day. Aim for the waterfall in the mountains. Truck camper. 99' is a good example. Cheers!

    Hi Tom, Do you have any specifics about the aluminum trailer frame, axle, wheels and tires you used? I just picked up a Honda Silverwing 600cc maxi scooter and stumbled on a trailer hitch for it cheap on eBay. I’m still building my original 6x10 vardo style foamie camper, but when I’m done, I’m seriously considering building a second one for my Silverwing. Any input on the trailer frame build would be immensely appreciated!

  • @thetinysideoftiny7625

    @thetinysideoftiny7625

    2 жыл бұрын

    Kia Ora Brian! I built the frame from scratch with a friend of mine. It’s made from box channel aluminum. Mostly welded. It’s a solid axle on pillow block bearings. No “suspension” to speak of…(no leaf springs or shocks). I had to do this for the extreme weight savings required. The tires are Carlisle 4.10 x 3.50-6. 4-ply. Speed rated to 35mph. Not the ideal set up as the trailer can be a little bouncy over bumps. I’d recommended a real suspension if possible. Hope this helps. Please feel to reach out with other questions Brian!

  • @briankopp6171

    @briankopp6171

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much, Tom! Because my maxi scooter is quite capable of Highway speeds, and I’m planning on doing some longer trips with my Foamie, I have to have suspension on this build. After pricing torsion half axles and what it would cost to title and license a home built trailer here, I decided to buy a used titled 40”x48” motorcycle trailer instead, and I’ll build my Foamie on that instead of building an aluminum one. I have 600cc of motor and a 500 lb maxi scooter so I’m not quite as limited by overall weight as you were. Another awesome video, by the way. Thanks!

    Kia Ora Agencia! Your comment made me laugh...I am very happy that you are enjoying my videos. I am posting a new video in a few days. It is a special "thank you" to Brazil. I don't know why but I have a big following in Brazil and I want to say thank you by cooking Feijoada and Farofa!

    mate.. we enjoyed again with a nice video.. The food you make looks really delicious. Also, please convey my regards to your artist friends.. Artists are smart people, so are scientists. It is difficult for scientists to be artists, but artists can become scientists when they have adequate technical training and the necessary support. because pure mathematics is not enough to transform the picture inside their heads into a physical object.. by the way ; I'm interested in the equipment you use the most.. for example; your cooking stove is beautiful... why don't your caravan have shock absorbers for less "jump"?. Can't you just put solar cells in your trailer and store them in a small lithium battery?. Should your caravan have a brake?..wouldn't it be dangerous for it to drag you when you brake while going downhill?. When you have to stay inside in rainy weather, it would be nice to be able to access the "luggage" section at the back and eat inside. When you get caught in a cold rainy weather, how about a light, small, oil-powered heater to warm up inside?. some car drivers ignore us motorcycle users, be careful, drive safely..

    Kia Ora mecanomy! I just texted Sue and Wally your comments. I am sure they will appreciate your kind words :) I have Amazon links in the description box to the stove and other gear I use. Please feel free to take a look. I had to keep weight to an *absolute* minimum so a very simple and light suspension was needed. Springs and shocks would have added way too much weight. Solar cells and batteries also add weight and bulk, so I carry a small but powerful Li-lion battery pack with me. As for the brake, I avoid going down hills lol. Seriously though, the brakes on the scooter do a pretty good job of stopping the trailer. At 170 pounds total, it is just like having a passenger on the back of the bike. I may add a single drum brake to the axle at some point for added safety. From the inside, I am able to access the rear area of the trailer. There's lots of storage space back there. I can also eat inside when there is bad weather. I have a tiny kitchen countertop inside and a small table that I use. It works great! The trailer is made from XPS sheet foam. It is a wall insulating material. Because of this, the trailer is very well insulated. I can effectively heat the trailer with 4 small tea lights. When I sleep, I do not burn candles for safety reasons, so I use a battery powered heated vest that can run for 12 hours. Thanks for the safety wishes. Please stay safe out there too my friend :)

    Kia Ora Greg! I'm not sure lol...my channel is brand new and I'm trying to get my legs under me. I really enjoy cooking so there's probably always going to be a cooking element to my videos. I am wide open for suggestions for content. If there's things you'd like to see or ideas you have, please send them my way. I would appreciate it! Thanks for watching :)
