Uranium Cat - Meow!

Ғылым және технология

A uranium glass (likely from the Mosser Glass Company).
Looks like it contains naturally refined uranium.
These can be found on eBay and other places and are wonderful to own!

Hi Antiprotons! :D i wanted to say I really love your videos. I actually have radiophobia, but watching your videos has helped me to take the edge off of my irrational fear, and I have even been thinking of getting my own Geiger counter and starting my own collection! :)

I have had a little radiophobia before. Once I learned that radiation (while certinly being carcinogenic) is only weakly carcinogenic, I was less worried. Smoking, drinking, sun tanning, radon in your house, and driving are all much more dangerous! =) Glad you like the videos!

I have a curio full of nothing but the nicest uranium glass I could find through the years in my living room. I sit 5' away from it every day. Should I move it away from me?

As I understand it, the problem with depleted uranium is that there's a whole bunch of it going cheap as a byproduct of the nuclear industry, which makes using it very tempting.

Oh yeah I love to debunk my hippie friends on Facebook posting stuff like "the Pacific will be dead in a year" and whatnot. It is quite entertaining. However it is very disturbing how ill informed people can be. I think if we had proper education we could have a real chance at clean energy.

Ask them this: 1. Fukushima & Chernobyl were both meltdowns of enriched uranium fuel reactors. Similar radio nuclides were spewed. 2. Forests around Chernobyl are epic with vast wildlife (which has even become a problem!) 3. Pacific is dying (according to them) How does 1+2 really = 3? lol

Check out Ian Goddard's channel for a series of videos debunking the hysterical claims of the Fukutards. I also made a some very short videos about Fukushima but Ian's videos have much better production quality.

Hi Tom, I have been watching your videos now for several years, and I always have wondered what your scientific background is. You are knowledgeable in chemistry and physics. Do you have a degree in those fields? What is your educational and vocational background? Lovin' your videos---keep up the good work!

I studied computer science and have a BS + 80 hours. My BS is just a paper to me as it taught me nothing. That's why I never bring it up. lol I am going back for my MS in Computer Science as soon as possible, but for right now I have just an under grad. After that, I want a doctorate in computer science. Maybe AI or VR research? All of my science knowledge comes from personal study... however, I have spent maybe 1-10 hours a week studying all forms of science since I was a child. This was just like college, but I enjoyed it. I just don't get educational credit for it ;) My topics are: Computation science Computer Science (esp. VR and AI, as well as computational analysis of big data) Nuclear physics (esp. gamma spectroscopy) Astronomy Astrophysics (esp. x-ray solar spectroscopy) Micro biology Geology (esp. gems and radioactive minerals) Holography Anthropology (esp early Neolithic period)

A couple of your interests are mine as well: AI, Astronomy, Nuclear physics, and Microbiology. My background is in Biology, Chemistry, Electronics circuit design---low power RF transmitters, etc. I am fascinated by radioactive properties and this was what got me interested in watching your videos.

3:04 .....BUT...with µsv/h its possible to compare roughly the strength between 2 counters with different probes due the conversion factor programmed in them ... anyway nice video !!

Tom have you heard of Heisey in Marigold (twist) pattern glass? I get nearly 19,000 CPM on pancake probe from it. It's hard to find cheaply because it was only made for a very short period of time. Glows very nicely too. I have an octagon shaped saucer in that. I don't eat off the stuff but it's probably no big deal unless people are scratching it with a steak knife or something. The amount that may rub off into food with normal use is likely unmeasurable. Orange glazed pottery on the other hand should be avoided with acidic foods especially because it's a lot easier to scratch up and pit/chip the glaze. I've seen some very used and abused dinner plates in that stuff. One particular orange plate measured 6000 *less* CPM on the top eating surface than the bottom side from many years of harsh use. Yum.
