I’ve been producing music for over 20 years and to this day have a hard time with compression. No matter how many videos Watched I still have a terrible time retaining it. This video may be the best I’ve ever seen. You may have finally cracked my brain! Thank you so much:)

"a real shit to gold converter" hahahagaha 😂
Incredibly well constructed, clearly articulated and conspicuously demonstrated demystification on the topic of “directional” (Downward and Upward) compression and expansion. I have watched innumerable KZread videos but all of them left me more confused. This one right here; clarified it all for me! So well put together and the narration was accurately paced. Highly recommend this video for anyone who wants to “watch once and get it right the first time”. This is brilliant work done; keeping the “viewer understanding” at the core of video-production.

That´s a great compliment, thx!
If you told me when I woke this morning , that by the end of the day I will understand upward and downward compression and how to use such in Maximus, I would have told you you are crazy. But here I stand enlightened. 🙏🤸♀😊
Jetzt ist alles klar! Danke! Especially the bit about how they all relate to the threshold. I agree with others: we need to understand this before moving on to use cases etc.
Second time i watched this video now, last time was when it was released i think. Such a clear explanation. This channel really is gold.
Quite stunning to see that you created over 20 variations of a simple percussion loop by just gating and dynamics changes. I didn't even know that gating was possible this way.
Best explanation Ive heard after 10+ years of getting confused over & over again.
Best tutorials on KZread ❤️
Briliant explanation upward & downward compresions - 4:40
This is one of the clearest most concise yet complete videos about this, period. Verified all my perspectives. I think a lot of people putting up videos on youtube about this don’t truly understand these simple nuances. I think people who are exploring and learning need to stop trying to create tutorials and actually focus on learning rather than spreading confusion to even newer producers/engineers. Great video! Keep it up. Underrated.

Who the heck is this man!? Why now and not before?! I had been haunted by those four ghost horses for too many years, but only about 10 minutes of watching this I am free from ghostly fetter! I swear, no amount of graphics and explanation on the Internet, DAW, and effects/plugins cleared my doubt before this, the more I went down the rabbit hole the more I made myself confused even more. Extremely demotivating!

I was about to research expanders for me to buy...little did I know that maximus was solution this whole time! I have been using fl studio for years and never knew it could be used for EXPANSI😮N!! I am embarrassed 😳
"is that easy" easy enough to realize you've been doing it all along
I understand the concept , but , how can i do all this kind of compression in a other compressor but Maximum

99% of other compressors just offering downwards compression so the short answer is: you probably can´t!

@@flstudiotricks6903 I think only ableton and Xfer OTT , and Fabfilter multiband compresor but like you say not too many of them, thank you
2:06 Woahh! How did you do that? What plugin is that?

That´s not a plugin... I used the loop inside of Reaper as Reaper got a volume envelope, which is reflected in realtime... It´s perfect for such demonstrations!
